Remember when youth sports were about kids having fun while learning teamwork, a new motor skill and how important eating orange slices during halftime was to your overall game day diet.
Now I see 8 year olds on select teams, traveling via airplane to play in tournaments where college scouts might be in attendance.
This is crazy.
The best advice I can give younger parents is to slow it down. Stop chasing what other families are doing.
Say “no” not now, not yet.
Your child well thank you later on in life.
My older kids are now 28 and 25. Not once have I heard them say, “Dad, I really regret not starting competitive sports earlier in my life.”
We have one more to go. Our little man (pictured during his younger years) is just finishing up 7th grade. Turns 14 tomorrow.
He plays Football in the fall. Basketball winter. Track spring. Family fun during the summer.
We’ve said no to select summer leagues and I’m 100% confident his athletic future will turnout just fine.

✔️You need fuel going into your training sessions or early practices. If you’re not willing to wake up early or have a crack of dawn training session I have a tip for you!!
✔️Another way to prevent low energy for those early sessions is pre-sleep protein + carbs!! I’ve addressed this with a lot of our soccer, baseball, and basketball athletes lately.
⭐️Be sure to grab some protein + carbs after training to refuel and repair 💪
