"Football is hard. It’s tough. It demands discipline. It teaches obedience. It builds character. Football is a metaphor for life." #PlayFootball

"Everybody wants to win.
Everybody doesn't necessarily want to prepare to win.
You have to learn to love the process that will put you in a position to achieve greatness."
Winning is public.
Preparation is private.
And most of the time, the private work decides the public result.
🔥 Strength & conditioning helped Michigan to a Natty
While other teams were fading…
Michigan was still flying
Dusty May: ‘Matt Aldred does a great job in the weight room, especially late in the year at keeping these guys fresh.’
A championship built in the weight room! 〽️
Ohhhh BABY this is the box of all boxes... IT'S MY ALMA MATER!
While I wasn't the greatest quarterback in the world, my time as a Dayton Flyer was some of the best of my life.
Thank you to Coach Andrews, Tony Caruso and @DaytonFootball, see you guys Week 1 @ Eastern Illinois!!
I love this quote, and that a little push, a little criticism is necessary. Too many people are afraid to push themselves, or others because it's hard.
"Don’t do the easy wrong; do the hard right.
You have to go against your nature.
It’s not in everybody’s nature to get up every morning & work.
When we don’t have a challenge, we are not our best. That’s what drives us." -Geno Auriemma

“It’s not what you are capable of; it’s what you are willing to do. Plenty of people are capable. Fewer people are willing.”
This quote is pure truth - not just in sports, but in life.
No Deposit - No Return!
Derek Jeter said, "It slows down when you're prepared and speeds up when you're unprepared."
"Every time you're in a situation, I've already gone through it in my head."
It means be intentional and consistent about how you prepare.

Nick Saban; Do we have ‘Show Dogs’ on the team, or do we have ‘Hunting Dogs’ on the team?
Hunting Dogs are focused on discipline, commitment, accountability, doing the right things and getting better.
Show Dogs are worried about how they look and playing time.
"People think accountability means blame.
It doesn't mean blame.
Accountability means holding yourselves to the standard that you guys deem to be important.
And, if it's important, you will point it out to a teammate when he is not doing it to the best of his ability." @JayBilas
8 Truths of High School Coaching.
1. Adversity is inevitable
2. Each player is different
3. Winning isn’t everything
4. You can’t please everyone
5. Parents have tunnel vision
6. There will always be critics
7. A supportive spouse is a must
8. The memories are unmatched!
We all want what is best for our children, but sometimes we need guidance. I have stressed many of these points to parents, but sometimes it is better to hear from someone other than me.
A parent asked me this exact question today:
“What can I do to minimize my son’s risk of injury to the best of my abilities.”
I gave it an answer in the moment, but then gave it more thought
It made me want to make this thread
🧵 How to reduce young athlete injury potential:
"I have never been afraid to fail.
Young people today, we got to put our arms around them, because kids are afraid to fail.
And they look at it as failure instead of a way to grow."
Failure isn't the enemy-fear is.
Failure isn't final—it's the foundation for future success.
Hang around two lazy people, you’ll become the third.
Hang around two cheaters, you’ll become the third.
Hang around two dropouts, you’ll become the third.
Hang around two CHAMPIONS, you’ll become the third.
Moral of the story?… Your circle matters!
Your middle schooler doesn't need "sport specific" training with a private trainer. They need to stop playing that sport year round, eat real food, sleep well, and become a better athlete through strength and speed training.
Saban says, “Mediocre people don’t like high achievers and high achievers don’t like mediocre people.”
Fact.
Standards matter.
- Do you raise the standard?
- Do you maintain the standard?
- Do you lower the standard?
Champions Raise the Bar.
Mike Tomlin said, “You need to continually be a guy on the rise.”
“The things that made you viable in the past aren't going to be the things that make you viable moving forward."
Excellence is the mindset.
It's the daily standard you set.
