LB Scrape Spill Tackle Drill

- The scrape spill drill integrates movement skills, block destruction, and tackling into a single exercise.

- Linebackers should maintain a downhill path with square shoulders while staying tight to the double team pole.

- Proper hand placement for the spill technique requires one hand on the blocker's sternum and the other on the outside of the shoulder pad.

- Players must plant their outside foot in the ground to quickly redirect and get back vertical toward the ball carrier.

- Coaches should emphasize keeping the eyes up during contact to ensure players see what they are hitting rather than ducking their heads.

- The ultimate goal of the drill is to avoid going one-for-one by being violent enough to shed the pulling blocker and make the tackle.

REPORT: Tre Howard is becoming the next head football coach at Uniontown.

Howard spent the last four seasons at Iola, working his way from defensive line coach to defensive coordinator while helping build one of the area’s top defenses and leading the Mustangs to back-to-back playoff appearances.
