I coach neurodivergent individuals and families to understand and work with their operating systems. AA, PDA, ADHD (not the letters I expected after my name 😁)
@jessejanderson Half busy is overwhelming and paralysing... back to back intense activity packed days with no time to think ourselves out of it... or leave me alone to stare at the wall
@autienelle OMG the amount of internalised ableism I have to undo when Autiee feel guilty about not having friends and don't recognise that they are happier with fewer people around them
@steepsandstims @itsmyamygdala Apologies if it seemed otherwise. I would never advocate for planned ignoring but I do advocate for staying present and calm and supportive while your child is allowed to feel their emotions. Lots of parents seem to hear that as ignore them.
@wonder_cripple 10 years old, telling him that the shower water feels like burning hot tingles on my back... his response... lucky you. That sounds nice, I'd quite like that.
Forcing children to go repeatedly risks sensitising them to school, rather than desensitising them (as the school hopes). Think about it, what happens if you forced to go somewhere you really dislike, day after day. Do you start to love it? Or do you give up hope? 9/
Wondering if other ADHD folks do the thing where you just have to have a “recovery” day every now and then where you don’t try to make yourself do anything your brain doesn’t want to do, and just let yourself ping around doing whatever pops into your head?

My new stock response when asked for free ND advice
I really love your endeavour and aim. However this does perpetuate the culture of asking NDs to give our expertise, experience and toil for free instead of employing NDs as consultants.
Society: "Right, so when you start out in your career, we'll get you doing easy work, like admin and customer service-based roles. Then, after years of this, you'll be good enough to move onto the SUPER hard stuff, like analysis and strategy.
