@RightAtOkay@AlafrigginBama One particular player at FSU early teens his parents went from fast food and security to having a cleaning business that was doing 6 figures and a consultation gig doing 6 figures. Slum apartment to massive brick home in this kids freshman year. It all went away after sr year.
@RightAtOkay@AlafrigginBama Consulting was popular, but a lot of times, someone's dad would go from, say a janitor to exec or manager at a paper mill in Alabama, at Oklahoma it was seed sales/cattle products, Ohio St was insurance sales.
@DennisSmith24@RyanWilliamsA1 C'mon Saban did pay them.
They got drafted and went on to earn hundreds of millions in the NFL.
They didn't get any cash in college though π
@ChiefAcorn@kdrama247@JCChristopher 30 minutes? Maybe 10.
We go from Des Moines Iowa to Denver Colorado often, it was 10 hours and 37 minutes avg with various gas cars/suvs. It's 10 hours and 52 minutes, almost like clockwork with our Tesla. That's about 700 miles. Same speed.
@kdrama247@JCChristopher Highway speed 70-80 mph you'll get about 180-240 miles depending on environmental factors. If you can sit through a 500 mile drive without stopping your bladder is better than mine.
2 stops usually, maybe 1, depending on the destination. You don't charge to 100% at chargers.
@chaosengineerr What problems can ai actually solve?
Trillions invested, and it has no clear use case that is actually productive.
Research? Slop, almost completely useless as it misses data constantly.
Code? Slop.
Image/videos? Slop.
Writing? Slop.
@RightAtOkay@AlafrigginBama Bag men didn't pay players directly or under the table.
But someone's family member getting a much higher paying job? That would happen.
Top tier programs were under a microscope, and a bag man handing out cash to players would've left too much to dig into.
@irish_cfo@AlafrigginBama Or negotiating them.
Most of this happened behind the entire school. Boosters wanted a player. They'd ensure they went there. But we're talking about Oklahoma offering them a Tahoe and a studio apartment, and Ohio St offering a Suburban, they wanted an Escalade.
@AlafrigginBama Stars had the cars, watches, nice apartments, etc. Same at any other top-tier program. Car donated to family friend via booster, family friend let's athlete drive it for school (add in a couple steps for NCAA), all good.
@AlafrigginBama Paid? Absolutely not. 17 years, no one legitimately came forward. That's thousands who would've known.
Did some players likely get some benefits? Absolutely. Directly from Saban? No. Every school did this.
@robertgraham It's funneled via a business first of all. The money stays with the trust/business after death. They didn't just get away with it. It follows generations.
There's no risk for what they do. Once you amase say 5B in assets in the market, you won't be able to outspend.
