@realityspammer Anyone who sees family as a "technology" should be neutered lest they produce a parody of one in pursuit of "meaningfulness". Worse than animals, which need no explanation for reproducing.
@bryan_johnson A very, very sad truth. But it doesn't need to be this way! All we need is to design a bed which would allow two people proximity while not restricting anyone's airflow and circulation.
@TiberiusScitus@shagbark_hick No, but he did go to the synagogue to learn, read and preach and he did go to the Temple. He did remove himself from civilisation to fast, but he was not a hermit. Even John the Baptist formed a community.
@hilarityjane @shagbark_hick I wonder whether I would be endangering my family more, spiritually, by making it harder to access sacraments. Early Christians were concentrated in cities and faced great persecution there for their Church communities. There is also the call to evangelise. It's a tough choice.
@Empty_America Yes, but it got there through being able to construct a huge military within a year or two, which has a lot to do with good industry, decent laws, internal and external safety, enough domestic savings to invest, river network etc. Empires do not emerge at random.
Scandal erupts at Stanford University after Ameer Hasan Loggins, a Stanford instructor, made Jewish students stand in a corner so that they could "feel what Palestinians have been feeling for decades"
He also belittled the Holocaust while doing it.
The only man to be buried in Hagia Sophia
Throughout 1500 years, only once was a grave placed within the walls of #HagiaSophia. Was it an emperor, a patriarch, or even a sultan?
No, in fact it belonged to a blind Doge of Venice, Enrico Dandolo, who once captured #Constantinople

@spandrell3 An election year is that special time when everyone is suddenly interested in politics but the deep administration gets to do anything they want without any backlash because people are focused on some figureheads abusing each other. Elections are the worst part of democracy.
@tsarnick@Outsideness Au contraire. The original sin is distrust of Knowledge and fucking about to find out. Adam could have just asked God what is it like to know all things and he would have received as much as the human is capable of knowing. The sin is distrust of Truth and rebellion against it.
@Outsideness Have you been exposed to the interpretation that the Tree of Good and Evil represents simply "Everything" - Good AND Evil. So humans damned themselves not by wanting to know all things (Logos-God-Good) but by wanting to know more than there is or should be.
