Hi, I don’t tweet much anymore. But this felt like it deserved attention. As someone who has aspired to work for @NatGeo since I was 10, I think it mostly just made me sad to know that such a storied and important institution has come to such a tragic decision.

NatGeo is laying off all of its staff writers.

@MaryHeglar Yes, especially because even though I’m also a white guy, the impossible level of imposter syndrome that I feel means that I’m generally much more surprised when someone says I am good at something. Like, when do I finally get to be confident about my skills?

Floods in Africa have been largely under-reported compared to similar events in Europe. Some people even sound shocked to hear there are floods in Uganda!

@tree_rescuer @emorwee If anyone is wondering what this guy is talking about. He’s the cofounder of an app that pushes personal responsibility in the face of the climate crisis. Hence his seemingly knee-jerk tirade about a nonexistent call to ‘lie down in front of bulldozers.’

Weird how decades of globalist economic policy created with the express aim of isolating dissenting nations created such a dire lack of resources that people are protesting their government. It must be that socialism doesn’t work.

@MarkBoslough @PeterGleick California definitely raises its fair share of livestock. But it’s a fair point. Thanks to globalization a burger could be coming from Iowa or Brazil for all you know. I think calling for personal responsibility is a bit of a red herring to distract from regulatory responsibility
