If the past was remotely true people would still build like this in less developed countries. They usually hang onto older ways of doing things longer, especially if it can done easily locally and with minimal heavy machinery.

Those buildings were made using just the local population and some horses and rope. No reason on earth those methods would not still be used right now if that's what they consistently produces with world-class quality.
