As the Israel team travels to Europe where they will play against Austria, Ireland and Kosovo between 24 September - 6 October, Palestinian families are being displaced and dispossessed, their land stolen, their olive trees uprooted, and their histories erased by settlers with the support of the Israeli military. The beautiful game should bring people together, not rubber-stamp apartheid.

It’s unconscionable that the Israel men’s football team will participate in the UEFA Nations League this autumn despite clear evidence that Israel’s football association continues to support illegal settlements.

Sport should never be used as a public relations spectacle for states committing atrocities. When rules are broken, when occupation, apartheid and genocide are ongoing, we cannot look the other way.

MICHAEL NICHOLSON has provided a major update on the future of Martin O’Neill as Celtic boss

In a statement he said the plan was to “come together and support Martin”.

He said: “The final weeks of the Premiership season; the final match at Celtic Park; the Scottish Cup final; these will live long in the memory for Celtic fans, whose support was a decisive factor.

“I thank Callum McGregor and all of the players and staff for their hard work and determination throughout the season that made the success possible.

“As the Chairman has noted, the environment was unstable, following Brendan Rodgers’ resignation and our decision to move on from Wilfried Nancy.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to Martin O’Neill and his management team, who stepped up for Celtic, twice, and who guided the team to success.

“We were therefore delighted that Martin agreed to lead the Club again this season and we have worked with Martin and his team over the summer transfer window to invest in the squad.

“Having started well in the Premiership this season, we experienced disappointment in the UEFA Champions League play-off.

“Reaching the league phase of the Champions League is an objective for us all, and we are sorry not to have achieved it.

“On top of that, the losses in the last week have been painful for us all.

Jock Stein did not take eleven men born within thirty miles of Celtic Park and win the European Cup because he had accepted that clubs like ours do not win things like that.

Every one of them was told the same thing we are told now. The money is elsewhere. The league is the league. You work within what you have.

They refused it. That refusal is the club. It is the only thing that has ever made Celtic different from a well run business in the green and white sector.

The last published accounts show £77.2m in the bank and £17.8m of pre-tax profit. That is not a club under pressure. That is a club that has decided the pressure belongs to somebody else.

Sustainability is a floor. It is what stops you falling through, and after 1994 we needed one. Somewhere in the last twenty years it got quietly turned into a ceiling. A defensive position became the strategy, and now we are invited to be grateful for the balance sheet as though the balance sheet were the point.

Nobody is arguing for recklessness. There is a long distance between recklessness and this, and we are parked at the wrong end of it.

The question is not whether Celtic can compete in Europe. It is whether anyone at the top of this club still thinks it is worth trying.

Tonight marks potentially the biggest night in the 147 year history of Cliftonville FC. We will vote on whether to accept the TIG investment into the club. Every member of this club, given the choice, would want it to remain Member owned. It's something that makes us special and part of the club; having our say on matters big and small. But the simple fact is - if we stand still, we are going backwards. Clubs all around us are progressing and modernising. Our beloved stadium, set in the picturesque and iconic Waterworks, has a main stand that's been crumbling and generally unused for years.

The takeover isn't about throwing money at players to guarantee success. Look at the amount the Glens have wasted attempting that. It's about bringing in people with years of experience to revolutionise the club and improve everything from the academy, staff and men and women's teams, to the entire North Belfast Community. Leaving a legacy that can be enjoyed by generations to come.

The whole process has been fraught with bitterness between members and it's been played out in the media, often minutes after a meeting has ended. That's unfortunate and there are friendships probably broken beyond the realms of repair. It boils down to the fact we all love the club and care for it so much, and each of us will think we know best.

If tonight doesn't get passed, I don't know where the club goes. And that's not to say we should accept any deal because we need money for a new stadium. I genuinely think the deal is a once in a lifetime opportunity (or maybe twice in a lifetime?) and we will see the club reach the potential we have. I don't see any investor wanting to touch us if this doesn't go through.

I remember going to a game against Omagh and there was literally about 80 people at it. People older than me will tell you of how we used to get beat 6/7/8 every week but they stuck with it, probably more for the pints and craic than anything to be fair.

Tonight is a massive opportunity for Cliftonville FC to take a step towards coming the biggest club in Ireland. Ambitious but I don't see any reason we can't become that. Hoping to come out of tonight with a giddy excitement about the club's future.
