Off to the @embl Heidelberg for #EESHuman, very much looking forward to connecting with the paleogenomics community to discuss how the @ENASequence can support their science through #OpenData
Delighted to see this announcement out. The INSDC will seek to onboard new members, meaning we can improve how global this collaboration is and will help us work towards truly equitable open data sharing in genomics. Exciting times ahead!
The International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (INSDC) is looking for new members.
Aiming to expand its global reach, INSDC seeks regional collaborators & organisations from all continents.

Very excited to share our recent publication in @MicrobioSoc Microbial Genomics describing collaborative efforts in analysing data from the European COVID-19 Data Platform. https://t.co/naNkZNjKQM
We discuss our data sharing ethos, the unprecedented scale of mobilising open data like this and our fruitful collaborations with partners like @EuropeVeo.
Very happy to have this paper out @MicrobioSoc as it represents a lot of effort for everyone here @ENASequence and @emblebi. It describes the tools and services built during the pandemic and reflects on how we might better respond for future pandemics https://t.co/riZG1puHzS
Big career announcement!! A few weeks ago I was offered an interview and site visit for a tenure-track Professor of Microbiology position at a dream location. But - I declined! 🌟 Here is why ... (TLDR: enthusiastically saying "No, thank you" to academia) 1/8 @AcademicChatter
Fully funded 3-yr PhD position @UofGlasgow@UofG_micro (UK students)- Friend to Foe: Colonisation as an Entry Point for S. aureus Infection https://t.co/ulQdSHlkWq
Without biodata resources, there is no advance in the life and biomedical sciences. In its 2033 selection, @globalbiodata has announced a further 15 Global Core Biodata Resources, bringing the set up to 52, collectively serving a breadth of domains, data types & user communities.
@ewanbirney@barleybirney Budget is the main thing. Grinder is often more important, and good ones for home espresso are expensive (eureka mignon for example). Gaggia Classic is iconic and robust. Profitec Go is new and highly rated! James Hoffman on YouTube is a good resource.
@con_meehan As much as spatiotemporal data is a mandatory requirement for many of our pathogen checklists, people aren’t obligated to use those checklists and can use the default. We didn’t have mandatory spatiotemporal sample metadata until this year, hence the disparity in legacy data
I very much appreciate @siliconrepublic giving me the opportunity to talk about the Pathogens Portal at @emblebi@ENASequence and how it’s poised to be at the centre of the open biodata sharing, preparing for the next pandemic. https://t.co/W0Hjpqk4E1
Contracts are signed, so I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that I will be moving to the University of Glasgow in the new year to start my own research group as a Lecturer in Bacteriology in the School of Infection and Immunity 🥳🍾
First day of new position! So thankful to all who helped me with the promotion package, the external reviewers for reading the 55 pages(!) and the @AROM_NTU team and my wider collaboration network as research isn't done alone! Looking forward to even more cool research as an AP.
@bioinformer@BitTorrent@globalbiodata Definite need to have a genuine scientific conversation about availability of data. Likelihood that all data need not be on hot storage. We may need to transition some data to cold storage to save on cost, depends on how patient people can be for the data they need
@bioinformer@BitTorrent Although in all seriousness, sustainability of computational life sciences services is a critical concern. Not one to be remedied by reinventing the wheel, but to convince some funders to commit money to maintaining these long term. Hence @globalbiodata s mission is important
#BYCOVID has an #opencall for proposals to support the implementation of additional 🦠 #SARS_CoV_2 data hubs to increase the flow of viral sequence data 🧬 into the @ENASequence!
