Come out this Saturday, April 8th to make seed paper with the Columbia EcoReps! Feel free to bring in used office paper to give it new life with NY native wildflowers. Hope to see you there!
I'm looking forward to joining the @ColumbiaEcoReps' 2023 Youth Climate Summit on Saturday to talk about energy policy and how young people can move the needle on climate action.
Climate pods for Earth Day you say? We've got several! @RealHotTake for discussion & media criticism, @inheritedpod for narrative from the youth climate movement, @WeAreDrilled the first true-crime pod on climate, @nplhpodcast on the heart of the matter https://t.co/Z0VCY1kNk7
The climate movement is based on white supremacy. That has to change. If you want to end the climate crisis you have to end white supremacy.
We can sit around and debate these facts until time runs out OR we can end both white supremacy and the climate crisis while we have time.
What we're learning from our speakers:
🌍 #ClimateChange is HERE and NOW.
🌎 We can't fight climate change without also fighting #WhiteSupremacy.
🌏 We need #ScienceBasedPolicies.

Also recommend taking this quiz! Not all educational quizzes are created equal, and this one was outstanding. Can you beat my score of 7/10? https://t.co/2L2y9SRAx6
What are your plans for #EarthDay? It's the middle of finals, but we're going to take some time to reflect on our relationship and commitment to the planet.
Study break ideas: go on a walk with a bag and pick up litter along the way, tune into webcasts https://t.co/RT8xRTLgJr
@Target .@Target donated $512,300 to climate denying politicians’ campaigns in 2020.
If money talks, what is Target telling us with that $512,300?
Sounds like they don’t care about our economy careening into #climatecrisis!

This article has me questioning why I hadn't heard of the 1991 First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit (besides the fact I wasn't born yet). A must read! https://t.co/8VrFHOG2bN
New, by me: tech companies love to fashion themselves climate leaders these days, but their lobbying activity tells a very different story. Now a coalition of tech workers are asking their employers to match green PR with green lobbying dollars. https://t.co/EOri98NHd3
We're glad to see organics collection back in the budget! The organics drop-off at the greenmarket outside of Lerner each thurs/sunday was sorely missed this year (although our legs probably appreciated the extra blocks)
We are seeing big steps toward an Equitable Recovery in the NYC preliminary budget! @NYClimateWorks is winning:
✅ $240 million for solar on schools
✅ $4 million for Commercial Waste Zones
✅$15 million for organics collection

Wondering what the Biden American Jobs / infrastructure plan actually entails? Us too! Thanks to @climatetech_vc's newsletter for sharing this graphic and @DataProgress's polling day (showing bipartisan support - 57 percent of republicans say they support the plan)
Check out this video and channel! He manages to be very informative and very funny at the same time. (Plus he's a Columbia grad student!) https://t.co/LRVauv8BV1
@exxonmobil Researching better ways to cause climate change, whoopie. Maybe she should evaluate Exxon's past of blatantly harmful disinformation campaigns instead.
We also learned about "climate-washing" where someone could use the word "climate" in their proposal to try to get funded even if their project won't actually deliver concrete results related to climate. (Similar to green-washing)
We learned that the World Bank funds projects that are specifically climate-oriented, but they also are encouraging projects to incorporate climate co-benefits, and they recently announced a goal of aligning all of the World Bank's operation with the Paris agreement by 2023.
