Welcome to the Official Twitter page of El Paso County Commissioner David Stout, Precinct 2.

Yet again #ICE misses an opportunity to make us more safe. They arrest the person reporting a possible crime rather than actually helping local police investigate where the shooting was taking place. 🤦🏻‍♂️ https://t.co/T5d1BTtTdh

[Democracy Docket @DemocracyDocket]

NEW: The Texas Republican lawmaker who blocked Democrats’ effort to filibuster the state’s gerrymander suggested “shoot, shovel and shut up” as a way to deal with immigrants — a comment that could boost legal efforts to block the state’s map. https://t.co/Jo5YIo5r9u

Last week while at a NACO conference we happened to walk by @Marriott Westin in #SanFrancisco with a couple elected officials.

We had a little time so @CommStout and I picked up a sign and joined the @UniteHereL2 picket line.

Being raised in a strong union household, I was proud to stand ✊🏽 in the fight for better wages!

A win for my office, and one we've been working on for many years! Reducing crime and recidivism isn't just attained by policing and jailing individuals. I'm proud to lead the way in dedicating more resources to social services that truly help people.

This Saturday, we hosted a free Driver’s License Restoration clinic in #ElPaso and helped 15 people begin the process of restoring their license and managing the fines and fees associated with their cases. Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

This week is #WelcomingWeek2024 ❤️

As the national conversation around immigration tries to divide people and inflame tensions, this week local elected officials will tell us why they #ChooseWelcome.

First up, @CommStout from El Paso County, TX:

[Senator Roland Gutierrez @RolandForTexas]

Failed Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw is on video calling Mexicans cockroaches.

This is the same man that had his troopers stand down for over an hour as Latino students and teachers were massacred at an elementary school in Uvalde.

Disgusting.

[Office of New Americans- El Paso County, Texas @EPCountyTXONA]

Grateful to the El Paso County Commissioners for approving the #WelcomingWeek2024 Resolution!

THANKS to our incredible community partners for standing together in promoting inclusion, integration, & unity!

Special thank you to GCU the delicious light refreshments!

[Carol Alvarado @CarolforTexas]

Recent studies reveal that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than U.S.-born citizens, challenging long-held misconceptions. As NPR highlights, it’s time to ground our policies in facts rather than fear. Read more: https://t.co/woM8IW7X7C
