On 15 October 1987, Captain Thomas Sankara - the leader of the Burkinabé Revolution, was in a meeting to discuss a report by Alouna Traoré on his visit to Benin's revolutionary process. Traoré, who we met the previous day, survived the assassination rampage.
During the meeting, they heard gunfire outside and then shouts for them to come out of the office. Sankara unbuckled his pistol, left it on the desk, and then walked out with his hands in the air. He was shot a dozen times. As he fell, he lifted his fist in the air. @manolo_realengo and I visited the place where the Captain died, and then the mausoleum (designed by the extraordinary Diébédo Francis Kéré) where he, and his twelve comrades who were killed with him, are buried. Our visit, on 17 May 2026, was on the first anniversary of the construction of this site, authorised by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, after Sankara's remains had remained unattended to since 1987.
We paid our respects to our Captain and let him know that we are committed to the revolutionary process. As Sankara said in Havana a few days before he died, The blood of heroes fertilisers the soil of revolution.

KENYAN POLICE VS PEACEFUL ANTI-IMPERIALIST PROTESTERS

In this video, you can see the moment peaceful protesters were brutally attacked by Kenyan police without justification as they marched against the so called Africa Forward Summit, widely referred to by critics as the France Africa Summit, which took place in Nairobi on May 11 and May 12.

On 12 May, police in Nairobi, Kenya, arrested a Sovereign Media camera operator while she was covering anti-imperialist protests against the “Africa Forward Summit”, detaining her alongside at least 12 other activists.

The camerawoman was documenting the demonstration when security forces moved in. She was wearing a press vest at the time, but that didn’t stop police from detaining her, despite not being part of the protest itself.

Kenyan police have a documented history of attacking, detaining without charge, torturing and in some cases killing protesters on the streets of Kenya, particularly during demonstrations against the government.

Sovereign Media’s Ahmed Kaballo observed police firing teargas and shooting into the air before bundling protesters, including foreign nationals from Britain, France, South Korea and Greece, into police Land Cruisers. Officers also attempted to arrest Kaballo, but he was able to show his press card and UK identification. His Kenyan colleague, however, was detained despite presenting her Kenyan ID and press card.

The Communist Party of Kenya (Marxist-Leninist) condemned the arrests, naming Dimitrios Patelis, Joti Brar, Gacheke Gachihi and others among those detained.

The group had gathered to oppose a new defence deal granting French troops immunity from prosecution in Kenya, part of France’s military pivot following its expulsion from Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.

Kenyan police, in military fatigues and armed with rifles, attack the peaceful demonstration against French imperialism, after the World Anti-Imperialist Platform's 10th International Anti-Imperialist Conference and the Counter Africa-France Summit organised by PASAI. They then started arresting protestors, bundling them into trucks at gunpoint.
