Reforming oil and gas oversight in Texas.

[Future Heist @FutureHeistTX]

Texans are increasingly mad about the growing torrent of toxic oilfield waste by their homes.

So the state oil regulator acted decisively: it told them to shut up.

Texas faces these same challenges. But worse, we have less data available on spill and leak locations and volumes to quantify the problem.

Turning that into supply is not a technology problem anymore. It is a pricing problem, a standards problem and a jurisdiction problem.' A House chair's blunt take on Texas' produced water puzzle.

Despite criticisms on how the company communicated with East Texas residents, the Texas Railroad Commission approved Exxon's permits for the Rose Carbon Capture Project by a 2 to 1 margin. https://t.co/bhkMSbhbW0

I know most people, heck most Texans, don't pay attention to the Railroad Commission, but this is the agency that oversees FORTY PERCENT of the oil production in this country. Especially as the federal government deregulates, what this agency does is immensely important.

Everyone needs to check out this awesome article
@anxious_maria put together, where she explains the responsibilities of the Railroad Commission of Texas. Despite the discourse on here the last few days, this agency has nothing to do with culture wars:

New for @TexasTribune: @DrewDarbyTX tore into oil and gas commissioner @ChristianForTX for missing a committee meeting scheduled to discuss a public comment policy at the Railroad Commission --- which Christian instituted.

Chairman @DrewDarbyTX eviscerates Railroad Commissioner Wayne @ChristianForTX for not appearing at the House Energy Resources Committee.

"It is beyond clear that commission's Commissioner Christian has willfully chosen to defy this committee."

Says Lege will set RRC policy.

Thank you Texas energy resources committee for inviting public comment about the Railroad Commission and P-13 wells. When an oil and gas well is converted to a water well, it’s still a conduit for pressure and should be properly addressed.

Pollution doesn't recognize borders, and not measuring something doesn't mean it isn't there. We need more air monitors across the Permian Basin in Texas to protect our health.

A massive fire is spreading across North Texas in Palo Pinto and Jack counties. Although the cause of the fire has not been determined yet, Palo Pinto County has 344 orphaned wells and Jack County has 185. Palo Pinto ranks 6th highest for orphaned well counts as of July 22, 2026.

New: @DrewDarbyTX sent this letter to @ChristianForTX, the RRC today about its vote to nix the standalone public comment section of the agenda at future open meetings.

Adds that he will discuss it at the 9/15 Energy Resources meeting and “expects [Christian] to address it on the record.”

The next open meeting of the Railroad Commission of Texas is next Tuesday, August 18th.

Interestingly, there's a section of the agenda with items for presentation by individual commissioners. This is a bit unusual.
