There's so much change happening at present. It's easy to feel powerless & overwhelmed. That's why I have gone back to sharing the classic Stephen Covey "circle of control" model with many of the teams I work with. There are lots of big changes happening that are in our "circle of concern" & we don't have the power to do much about them. But we can still make a significant difference in the world in our "circle of control" & "circle of influence". Lets put our energies into what we can control & influence.

It is incredibly difficult for staff to have to manage care in this way. They go to great lengths to treat patients with dignity but we know that for those waiting, despite the very best efforts for staff, it can be really distressing.
The NHS is experiencing one of the worst ever winters with high flu levels and the knock-on impact of cold weather. Overcrowding is driven by challenges admitting patients to wards - last week 96% of adult hospital beds were occupied, with huge difficulties discharging patients.
We know that with an ageing population and growing demand, this issue isn’t isolated to winter. So, we are continuing to work with the government to build an NHS that is fit for the future via the 10 year health plan – making that important shift from hospital to community care.
The experiences of nurses and patients are harrowing to read in the report published by @theRCN today and to be clear, this is not the position any of us working in the NHS think is acceptable.
