I do not think they understand the serious of the damage they have caused themselves in an ongoing relationship.

It has been going on for quite some time. Spacex and the U.S. government has all the information. Things may not bode well for Ukraine in the future as Zelensky and many others in Ukraine have done serious damage for the ongoing relationship. Making the attempt was one thing, lying about it for over a week is a serious problem.

The Starlink/Starshield Propaganda War

Until a couple of years ago, Starlink was a commercial venture to bring another conduit for internet and communications to market. Its potential for military uses came in so fast, that a seperate security environment for use, liabilities and contractual arrangements had to be developed “on the fly” and Starshield was created.

Ukraine and its engineers had access and found some “loopholes” and made efforts to circumvent restrictions. Similar to past PC gamers doing everything they can to overclock CPU’s and memory even if it voids their warrantee.

Ukraine has every incentive to maximize the performance of whatever systems it has during an existential war; that is not surprising. Even Russia, has obtained starlink for analysis and hacking. Ukraines use of propaganda is not restricted on claiming Musk or the USA is the problem. Musk and the USA, are restricted and have to follow actual Security issues and Classification.

Providers of satellite communications, aircraft software, or similar systems typically impose contractual, geographic, and operational limits for reasons that include network integrity, liability, export-control compliance, and preventing the technology from being reverse-engineered or used in ways that create broader risks.

Foreign military sales and similar arrangements routinely restrict reverse engineering, unauthorized software changes, and certain uses precisely because the seller retains responsibility for the system’s security, performance guarantees, and the risk that modifications (or captured hardware) could be exploited by adversaries. Unauthorized changes can also void support arrangements and create single points of failure that affect the whole network.

@csharpgen @tpgoebel Not exactly. They were finding ways to bypass and use regular starlink and minis with some of their drones. Regular starlink is much more readily available.

@Max_Lindblad @tpgoebel I don’t blame them for trying to cheat, it is war. Why countries like finding downed equipment. Ukraine has tried messing with F-16 software.

It reminds me of gamers over-clocking the CPU for more speed and then a new BIOS upgrade wipes out the ability or workaround.
