@Wilhelm_Riker Not price? I've bought a ticket for a return journey in a couple of weeks and it's ยฃ57, but if I went for anytime singles I could book seats (because it's LNER) but the price is ยฃ119. Given LNER can do it, seat booking seems doable, but I wish they'd have just one fixed price
This is just such inflammatory reporting trying to stir up anger at all trans people over something that applies only to trans people with a gender recognition certificate because it's aiming to prevent the GRC being disclosed inadvertently through payroll info
Also 69k HMRC staff (probably the biggest proportion of callers), some members of the armed forces, some other civil servants, various famous people ... it's literally just the line for people where there's a greater risk of privacy breaches and like 10 people work on it
The phone line, PD1, is typically reserved for MPs and Royals
Angela Rayner handled her tax affairs related to underpaying ยฃ40,000 in Stamp Duty on it
An HMRC spokesman said: โPD1 is not a โVIP serviceโ but a helpline for taxpayers whose records require greater protection and therefore can only be accessed by specialist staff. This can be for a number of reasons.โ

Do you think a man in is 40s in a rented house share is fit to lead a country? He's likely never had to manage a household or make tough financial decisions. He's living like a student and his politics are like that of a student union, angry and thinks the rich are at fault for everything. He'd be better suited to be the leader of a union. They are just a protest party, they cannot run a country.
@palebloodstasi Opt out of calls if you do, otherwise you're going to spend a lot of time telling someone that you really appreciate their work and thanks for the update, but no you wouldn't like to increase your direct debit. The local groups are good though and you can just volunteer for them.
@Werereader@hauntedmchn1817 Came into parliament and immediately refused to succumb to pressure and voted against the 2015 welfare bill, I will always respect someone who won't compromise as a new MP
@LukasMukasPukas@chorowitzxxx I feel they're fine for parliament(s) to a degree because you want a quick switch over, but there are plenty of councils who do their counts on Fridays anyway - and it never really causes an issue because they'll have had everything signed off for the year ahead in April anyway
@EastBristolian@querenhio@FugeusRedux No one can undo the effects of suppressing the language for hundreds of years in 30. But specifically, Irish speaking communities were the hardest hit by the famine and emigration, it's hard to regenerate a language when about half your speakers are lost in a very short time
@lmartods Can I encourage you to try some east coast travel? Very easy (although not necessarily cheap ๐ฌ) to do a lot of day trips down the east coast from London.
Every day that we get closer to the renters rights act coming into effect, is a day I feel more and more like screaming "sold properties don't magically vanish!"
@hohuperkynikos @NickShepley @keewa Tbf it's not MPs' jobs to run their constituency - that will be down to their local authorities - but they could certainly use the time to look at their constituency work, which would be things like requests for support or representations about particular issues/votes
@BareLeft@BanGaoRen They couldn't in 2023 ... harder to check now because the 2025 version of the staff handbook - https://t.co/JoAdXa8vzk - just refers to a link to the alcohol misuse policy which needs a password to view, but I assume not much has changed in those two years.
@JackDunc1@BEisenhart Do you not know anyone who was a teen or early 20s parent? Their kids are 20+ now, so you get people who are grandparents in their 40s.
@breadandposes@palebloodstasi Once again I think it's another case of the Victorians causing problems by releasing into the wild animals they shouldn't have been removing from their original habitats ...
@breadandposes@palebloodstasi Oh yeah of course- this is the one I'm thinking of: https://t.co/Yl5LQiLiSf
Though I'm pretty sure the one I own has a red cover, but it's still with my parents so I can't check lol
@breadandposes@palebloodstasi Huh, turns out there's more than one squirrel colonisation/genocide children's book ๐ค Now I'm racking my brain for all the weird animal books I read as a pre-teen ๐
