Your contributions continue to have a substantial impact on children in the east of the Congo. They enable children to be trained by local cobblers to make thousands of pairs of shoes for their peers in the displacement camps. #DRC#FreeCongo https://t.co/wt0bTqTQ4d

And each passing brings us face to face with a silent shame: How could we have learned so much from revolutionaries, thinkers, and those who shaped our consciousness, without their legacy profoundly transforming our era?
I search, I reflect, I circle back to this question: what is disfiguring our generation? What have we lost along the way?
For perhaps the most tragic thing is not seeing our icons leave us, but realizing that we have not yet learned to become the guiding lights that tomorrow will need. @azizfall9@congofriends@asmbaraza@theblacklist@AfricansRising@TrustAfrica
Since the 1990s, more than 6 million people have been killed in the DRC & millions more displaced. Three decades later, they still wait to be heard. They still wait for justice. We revisit some of the most devastating events that have marked the past 30 years.

The Ebola Transit Centre in Kigonze camp was staffed by committed Congolese professionals. It is disappointing that it burnt down despite being in a secured area. The dispersal of the 19,000 camp inhabitants also complicates humanitarian response.

Human rights lawyer @WolfgangKaleck represents the family of Patrice Lumumba, the first Congolese prime minister, who was assassinated in a U.S.- and Belgian-backed coup. “This is a story of the West preventing democratically elected leaders in the Global South from distributing the goods of their country to the peoples of the country,” says Kaleck.
The Ebola Transit centre in the now emptied Kigonze IDP camp burnt down last night. The staff are a committed team who provided important and excellent services. Deeply disappointing. We are following up with the authorities to ensure that all health facilities are protected.
I genuinely don’t know which is worse:
Trump saying, “We ended the war” while Congolese are still being killed and displaced…
or hearing Ebola is “under control” while cases and deaths continue to rise?
Despite Rwanda repeatedly having signed peace agreements for eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, its forces and its proxy M23 rebel troops killed more than 300 people in June and July in areas of eastern Congo that they held. https://t.co/62hpNpmnEU
