.@antonioguterres is closely following recent developments in #Uganda.
He notes with concern reports regarding the detention of political and civic actors, including cases in which the whereabouts of some individuals have not been clearly established.

In #Uganda, President Museveni’s son and military chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba ordered the shutdown of the Daily Monitor newspaper, continuing his unchecked and unjust campaign of harassment and intimidation of independent media and civil society.
These latest attacks on media outlets in Uganda are emblematic of years-long crackdown on freedoms of expression and association in the country.

The U.S. needs to review its security relationship with Uganda. Gen. @mkainerugaba's attacks on free speech, including shuttering major media houses this weekend, make him & the UPDF unfit partners. We should only work with those who advance regional security, not diminish it.
This only exposes your mental and physical inadequacies. You’re nothing but a sadistic coward who can’t face anyone ‘man to man’, neither in a logical public debate nor in a fare physical fight.
This a beautiful family. Do they know their father abducts, kills and tortures Ugandans? Or that the privelege they have enjoyed from childhood was built on the tears of other children?
Uganda in 2026! Museveni's son just released a picture of his captive, Advocate Erias Lukwago. Blind folded! His crime? Attempting to serve him court summons! If he can do this to an outgoing Lord Mayor of Uganda's capital city, former MP, and senior lawyer, imagine what he does to our ordinary supporters who are abducted day in, day out. And yet Museveni still has the audacity to say anything about Idi Amin! The world must not look on. There will be accountability for these crimes against humanity. It's only a matter of time.
If you stand with the UAE- REPOST now. Share the picture.Stand against the Islamic regime in Iran. Stand with humanity. Stand with civilization against darkness, against backwardness. Choose your side. Silence is not neutral.
On behalf of WLC, we stand with @HEBobiwine and the people of Uganda — in international forums, in our global network, and in ensuring the world does not look away.
Dictators count on silence. Bobi Wine has never been silent. Neither will we.
Sometimes you have to pause and celebrate those who give their all in the pursuit of democracy. Tonight is one such night.
As a @Renew_Democracy Fellow, I am filled with joy to witness the courage and sacrifice of many in defending freedoms; in believing even and especially when times are tough. Never tire of believing, of trying, of pushing for freedoms and for a better future.
Glad to see a friend, @HEBobiwine, being recognized for his sacrifices, courage, and belief in a better future for our generations and our country.
RM @RepGregoryMeeks: It was an honor to reunite with Bobi Wine, whose tireless pursuit of a free, democratic Uganda has inspired millions around the world. His leadership of a nonviolent struggle to end Uganda's crackdown on political opposition groups and strengthen human rights provides important guideposts for the US-Uganda partnership.
