@DavidJohnButler@BradRTorgersen If you ever need an movie for a "Bad Movie Night", this one should be near the top. It's terrible. Really terrible. But it's still quite enjoyable to watch. There are some fun scenes and it's just kind of insane.

I know we're over-represented in science fiction and fantasy literature, but aside from that, I don't see many mainstream depictions that are positive. But that just might be negativity bias.

I understand why the British have difficulty comprehending how we Americans refuse to submit to and obey our alleged betters. We’re Americans and we don’t have betters, even among other Americans.
We’re not subjugating journalists. We’re treating them with the respect they have earned, and if that amount is low, that’s a reflection of their behavior.
In America, those who hold important institutions in society answer to us, not vice versa, and if they fail, they will be appropriately chastised.
Anarcho communists are my favorite communists because they're the only ones who looked at every communist experiment ending in authoritarianism and concluded the problem was that there wasn't enough wishful thinking.
Their entire political theory is: "Nobody will own anything, nobody will enforce anything, nobody will have authority over anyone, and somehow everyone will voluntarily obey communist rules forever."
It's less a political philosophy than a trust fall with civilization.
The moment someone says, "No thanks, I'd rather keep my property and trade voluntarily," the whole theory faces its first encounter with reality and immediately starts looking for a government to pretend it isn't one.
