@Endymio82773232@gchampeau Nonobstant l’étrangeté de ce commentaire au regard du contexte, me vient un doute : quel parti aurions nous dû choisir pour ne pas en arriver là ?
@dieworkwear Finally, as a decor enjoyer, I’m intrigued by this gilded « rinceaux » and scallop shell added to the WH. It doesnt look good, for sure, because of an incoherent design (fireplace is all antique and his gilded stuff are indeed rococo) but can’t help wonder : who made it and how ?
@dieworkwear So, on this last one, the craftsmanship simply isn't what it used to be. And that is why it’s really tied to american gilded age (Frick’s Collection, Morgan Lib etc) because it’s the same pastiche and nostalgia style made from modern technique. Ergo : overloaded and machine made.
@dieworkwear A few nuances: the de Cabris decor is pure French Neoclassicism. As gilded as it may seem from an American POV, it is actually classical and 'modest' for a 18th-century boiserie. Whereas the ceiling at la Marine dates to the late 19th and is merely an expression of 17th nostalgia
