@_conniege My husband thinks that question is rediculous and once asked back for the weaknesses of the program he was apllying to be director of instead of answering. Then he went on to say that you develop a team by enhancing and applying everyone's STRENGTHS, not by focusing on weakness
@DenaTalksDNA@TheACMG@GeneticCouns@GeneticsSociety I am the clinical co-director for the Metabolics and Genetics course at Western Michigan University School of Medicine. It is a 6 week course for M1's
@SohneeAhmed@AbbyBartlett_@thisisaaliyya I've also had peopke think of a mutation more in terms of a mutant (as in de novo). Again, same problem with the word "change". I use what is on the report from the lab and both explain it to the patient as a variant that increses risk and define it in my result summary
@HHampel1@PedsHemeDoc Still do. And it helps that social media automatically puts a period if you double space after a word. It's still ingrained and I don't see the point in changing that old habit.
@erpm3l @theRNbiologist At least a year long commitment. Most parts of the world breastfeed longer, but not like the US would provide adequate space and time for a working woman to keep up her milk supply for even a year.
@treetale @erpm3l @theRNbiologist If that's always the case, my daughter wouldn't be alive today. I still breastfeed somewhat (at 2.5 years, I believe in baby led weaning for my family), but I didn't make enough to sustain her during infancy. Breast is ideal, but FED is best.
@jonykipnis Hire a few genetic counselors to be your in between.. They were specifically trained to communicate science, risk/benefit analyses, etc to those with less education than the typical media personality
@chicagogenetics Vets give estimates prior to procedures, we should be able to do the same in human medicine. No other service industry provides a service without estimations included in contracts negotiated prior to the service.
@chicagogenetics I have heard of some litigation in other places regarding bills to patients (including deductibles, copays, or total amounts) and hospitals sending to collections. Agument: that u can't bill for a service without telling the customer an amount PRIOR to the service being done.
@Alex04048587@SBakerMD Average chicken lays 2/3 days/week, so you only need 36 chickens for that many eggs. It is variable during the year, though. If in the Northern hemisphere and not supplementing with light, you might get much less right now. In mid Jan-Feb you might get 1 per chicken per day.
@DrFrankLipman And most trained chefs will tell you that you are being redundant when you say bone broth. All you need to say is broth (or the specific type like chicken broth, veal broth, veg broth). Or stock, depending on which you are making.
Happy GC awareness day! (But also check your photo border to make sure itβs from an organization that doesnβt actively oppose GC licensure!) #GCchat
@cristenw@umichsph Wow, we have a lot of overlapping history and luck. I'm where I am today due to 4 primary people, @NIHDirector and Paula Gregory who took me on as a high schooler at the HGP and David Law and Diane Baker who helped me decide to be a GC rather than get a PhD and work in research.
@PeterAttiaMD you should interview Mary-Claire King. She's not just the woman who discovered BRCA1 and BRCA2, but is a great humanitarian, and has an amazing personal story.
@lizvarga When industry respects our training/credentials with recognition & finances, it's a hard pull to ignore. I have recently taken my 1st job offer under the median $ for my experience to stay in the clinic just to be treated as a clinical support staff rather than a mid provider...
