@zccinzim Supervisory Council Member and Chairperson of the Economic Justice Commission, Rev. Cele presented theological reflections at the opening of the Debt Conference. Drawing from Leviticus 25:8–10 and Isaiah 61:1–2, he emphasized the biblical framework of Jubilee as a call to justice, restoration, and economic equality. He underscored the Gospel imperative to liberate the oppressed and reminded delegates that the privileged often forget the cries of the classless. Highlighting the spiritual and social significance of debt cancellation, he affirmed that in Scripture, debts are forgiven, slaves are released, and land is restored as a reflection of God’s mercy and justice. Concluding, Rev Cele asserted that engaging in debt justice is theologically sound and essential for sustainable development, and called for structuring debt in ways that foster national transformation, social stability, and economic equity for Zimbabwe.
