@japan_nobunaga@MarkHalperin The gift of endless baskets has been repaid ten fold by this post. The amount of good things in your life is limited only by one’s ability to see them.
USA. A Mexican restaurant. We had not yet ordered anything, and the food was already arriving.
Chips. Salsa. Unrequested. Free.
I stopped the waiter. "We have not earned these."
"They just come with the table, man."
They come with the TABLE. In my land, hospitality is a debt. Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner.
This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat.
I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared.
"Did we…?"
"Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless."
Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined.
My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude."
Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man.
I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy.
Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived.
I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most.
Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.
Watching World Cup visitors discover the wonders of America (mostly through their social media posts) is a wonderful experience. Yes, there’s much which can be better and we frequently get caught up in that; that we lose sight of how good we truly have it.
@ALadyNamedKatie@mariana057 Don’t be shy about your accomplishments. Self promotion isn’t vanity; it’s visibility. No one ever built anything meaningful by staying quiet about it.
Keep it up 🤜🤛

@Braden_Keith Pray that your enemies are devious but not crazy. You can out think the devious. You can’t out crazy the crazy. Point being I wouldn’t bet that President Putin cares about any loss of life which is not his.
I’ve screenshots on my discussions with them both prior to and after my post. I’m getting the run around from @TeamStubHub and @StubHub. They’re not answering my questions, despite promising to do so and in general giving me the run around hoping I go away. Would be interesting to compare notes and show people how StubHub truly treats its customers
Bought Hamilton tickets six weeks ago through @StubHub. Credit Card charged. Flew half a continent to NYC. Hotel charges. Three hour before show no tickets. Buy replacement tickets now through @StubHub. Card charged. Hour before curtain no tickets. StubHub says we’ll send an email and let you pick replacement tickets. Email comes and says sorry we lied. Moral of the story StubHub is a fraud. Please share far and wide to let all know StubHub is a fraud.
Exact same situation with them last night in Huntsville for Billy Strings three night run. I spent three hours in the phone/chat until I got an email ten minutes after doors opened saying there were no replacement tickets and only option was refund. Horrible customer service. I was told so many contradictory things.
