Newcastle had to sell three key players this summer just to stay in line with financial rules. And they could easily have lost a fourth if he had pushed for a move.
Anthony Gordon was one of Newcastle's most important attackers.
Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali were arguably one of the best midfield pairings in the Premier League for a period. They were the heart and soul of Newcastle, yet both eventually ended up being sold to bigger Premier League clubs.
Lewis Hall was also heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. Had he pushed for it, United were reportedly willing to pay heavily for him. Instead, he chose to sign a new contract.
So Newcastle have incredibly wealthy owners, yet they're still operating within financial restrictions that can force them to sell important players.
Meanwhile, Manchester City keep buying.
Buy, replace, buy again.
If a signing doesn't work, they move on and spend again.
They've been able to spend at a level that has surpassed even clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea in recent years, despite those clubs generating enormous revenues from their global fanbases.
And this is where the Premier League's financial landscape becomes difficult to ignore.
Manchester City's rise to the top has been extraordinary, and the financial rules surrounding that rise have been the subject of serious scrutiny.
If financial regulations are going to mean anything, they have to be applied consistently.
Because if one club can operate under a completely different financial reality while others are forced to sell their best players to comply with the rules, then the entire purpose of those rules comes into question.
This cannot simply be ignored.
If breaches are established, they should have consequences.
Otherwise, we're setting a precedent that could completely change the financial landscape of football.
Relegating City is literally cutting off your nose to spite your face. It makes the Premier League less attractive, less competitive and less valuable globally.
Fine us if we’re found guilty. Punish City if the rules demand it, Punishment should serve the league, not damage it.
But sending the league’s biggest global draws into the Championship would hurt the Premier League’s relevance, commercial pull and appeal to international partners.
We flogged Elliot Anderson and Minteh on the PSR deadline just to stay inside the rules, and Anderson ends up at City anyway.
Now City get done on most of those 115 charges, and we're the ones who lost two young lads trying to play it straight.
How's that landing with you lot?

A clear reference to Arteta constantly running around miles outside of his technical area at the weekend.
This type of Big 6 bias needs calling out more so fair play to Jaissle for highlighting the inconsistency.
The Cartel are protected both on and off the pitch.

🚨 Newcastle United could still consider selling Lewis Hall in summer 2027 despite tying him down to a new contract.
The 22-year-old, who attracted Manchester United interest this summer, has agreed terms keeping him at Newcastle until 2031.
Hall cannot be considered categorically unavailable next summer, depending on how the season develops.

UK prices have genuinely stopped making sense.
A bottle of water can cost you £2+.
A train to London can set you back £150 just to go there and come back.
A 15-minute taxi ride somehow costs £20.
A couple of nights away in Britain can cost more than getting on a plane and leaving the country.
Your car insurance gets more expensive every year for the privilege of owning the same car.
And rent that used to be £600 a month is now pushing £1,000+ like that's completely normal.
Everything keeps getting more expensive while wages barely move.
At what point are we supposed to stop calling this a “cost of living crisis” and just admit we're being absolutely rinsed?
You work, you pay tax, you pay bills, you pay rent, you pay insurance, you pay for transport and somehow you're still left wondering where the fuck all your money went.
This country is becoming unaffordable by design, and we're just expected to shut up, keep paying and pretend it's normal.
The Jacob Murphy criticism at present is fully justified.
His legs have gone, he constantly gives the ball away, can't take corners or free-kicks and dithers on the ball far too much.
He's finished at this level and shouldn't be playing for us anymore.
Yet here we are.

🚨 #NUFC CEO, David Hopkinson, talks about how he plans to grow the Club's revenue up to 50% by 2030.
He believes we can catch the Cartel in terms of what we bring into the Club through sponsorships, event hosting, increased SJP capacity, our own revamped clothing range, etc.
I see Woltemade still has his online fanbase so riddle me this. If a club record signing, a striker who scored two goals in almost six months, is sent out on loan after one season - because not one, but two managers - decided he wasn’t suited to play for them, what does that make the decision to sign him? #nufc
🔺The Glazers bought Manchester United in 2005
🔺They borrowed £604m and loaded the debt on the club
🔺They have paid £834m in interest on that £604m loan
🔺£731m is still owed on that £604m loan
🔺United have lost £300m in the last 3 years
🔺United owe around £300m in unpaid transfer fees
🔺United’s current debt is in excess of £1B
In an era of PSR and FFP how have the Glazers been allowed to conduct business like this on one of the biggest institutions in the world?🤔
Miles stronger this season, Bruno and Gordon missed over 35 games between them last season, Nick VM was a total disaster. With no European football, Newcastle will definitely finish top half
Sticking my neck on the line here, we need to give woltemade more time, definitely should have had an assist to his name today with the chances created, the willock one early on springs to mind. Needed more from the ref today, constantly fouled and nothing given. He’s not a lone striker needs to play as a 2 man attack. #nufc
Think we’ve got to bite the bullet with Big Nick. No doubt talented, but just doesn’t suit our style.
TBH it’s better we keep Willock and move Woltemade on
Mental statement that.
Woltemade out and Murphy out and go get 2 class attackers

Totally agree / He’s totally lost out there, even his kit doesn’t fit him ! Physically miles off it ! Alan Shearer played ever single game for NUFC in short sleeves with his shirt tucked in ! VM looks like a drug addict in a charity shop 🙈
I watched Woltemade closely tonight and I swear there's no agenda against him....but it's time to call it and say that unfortunately, he's a terrible fit for this Newcastle United side.
Slow, sloppy, lethargic....plays like he's stuck in quicksand.
It's hard to watch.
