@sw_elite Congratulations - running, growing and making an S&C facility in the uk which is both successful on the gym floor with coaching, but also financially as a business is rare because it’s tough 👍
#WorldMNDAwarenessDay
We have to change the story of MND.
Today is about shining a light on all the people and families affected by Motor Neurone Disease. It is currently untreatable, and considered a terminal illness, the stats will tell you that over half of people die within 2 years of diagnosis. This disease strips you of absolutely everything, and rewrites your story for you in the worst imaginable way.
We have to find a way to treat it, and improve the lives of everyone stories it’s ruined.
Training isn't about mimicking the sport.
It's preparing for the demands!
If mimicking was the key, we'd just run time trials and specific intervals every day. We don't.
Yet, too often in team sports especially, training devolves into mimicking the sport.
@Coachgriffin88 I always wonder, when any S&C says strength hangs around for weeks, would they therefore not lift for this period with thier own training? A case where study doesn’t reflect real world findings where in most strength will decay way quicker. Nice post Ben

Nice piece of work to remind us fundamental strength training really is a non negotiable in S&C for endurance (although I’d not realise if I used social media videos for my cpd) 🤐😁
What type of strength training best impacts middle or long distance running performance?
New meta-analysis: The Effects of Strength Training Methods on Middle and Long Distance Running Performance
📈38 included studies; 900 middle or long distance runners
💪Strength training interventions included:
1⃣High load (>80% 1RM)
2⃣Sub max load (40-80% 1RM)
3⃣Plyometric
4⃣Combined methods (2 or more methods)
Strength training w/ high load can improve time trial an time-to-exhaustion performance
Combined methods (Strength training & plyometrics) had an increased performance improvement effect compared to one method alone (strength training only).
Plyometrics illicited no improvement in running peroformance when used in isolation (IE without concurrent strength training). But this finding is in contrast to some previous studies.

Very true - but aren’t the first 2 points where the art of coaching turns disengaging/boring and un relatable training, into something an athlete is motivated to do (while still being totally rationale and true to the fundamentals)
The basics aren’t sexy.
They don’t sell.
They aren’t a quick fix.
They are simple to understand and yet difficult to practice consistently.
But they work!

Not just ‘doing some exercises’ 🙈 - This reveals why S&C coaching is a must for significant and long term gains - not just with injury prev, but also in my eyes endurance performance ⬇️🏃♂️🏋️♀️

“It’s so much easier to be a critic than a celebrator.
Always remember there is a human being on & other end of every exchange & behind every cultural artifact being critiqued.
To understand & be understood, those are among life’s greatest gifts & every interaction is an opportunity to exchange them.”

Cancer patients deserve the most advanced exercise medicine techniques at our disposal. "Gentle exercise", "3 sets of 10", "Pilates", "Tai Chi", "light weight training", "low intensity walking", "balance training" just don't cut it when you have a life threatening disease. We have to do better!
