Start the year learning about TrkB and mGluR5 teaming up in the hippocampus, choreographing synaptic changes. BDNF and G-protein-dependent crosstalk lead the intricate dance of receptor crosstalk. Thanks to everyone that made it possible #trkb#gpcr https://t.co/363XX2O27O
Given the co-expression of TrkB and mGluR5 in the nervous system and their roles in synaptic plasticity. The enhancement of TrkB-driven synaptic plasticity by mGluR5 positive allosteric modulators offers promising avenues for advanced antidepressant treatments.
I am happy to share a pre-print about my project at at Dr. Francis Lee's Lab on a novel form of synaptic plasticity. Please don’t be shy and share your feedback. All this work was possible to an amazing team, thanks to @JihyeKimMD and the rest of the team

1. Our research describes a new RTK/GPCR crosstalk wherein mGluR5 amplifies TrkB effects to modify downstream signaling dynamics, leading to a unique form of BDNF-induced synaptic plasticity.
1. The identified crosstalk between TrkB and mGluR5 is facilitated through the cooperative action of Gbg, released from TrkB, and Gaq-GTP, released from mGluR5. This represents a novel and physiologically significant form of RTK/GPCR crosstalk.
2. This interplay results in a distinct form of BDNF-induced synaptic plasticity characterized by sustained, oscillatory Ca2+ signaling and enhanced MAP kinase pathway activation.
During #MHAM, I honor the countless hours of my lab team. We take a multidisciplinary approach to studying the function and dysfunction of neural circuitry with a particular focus applying this work to the progression & treatment of psychiatric disorders. Thank you!
A class of #Alzheimers drugs that aims to slow cognitive decline, including the antibody lecanemab that was granted accelerated approval in the United States in January, can cause brain shrinkage, researchers report. https://t.co/8uvEuZHCOG
Happy International Women's Day!
