Crossrail 2 is a proposed new railway for the South East, linking national rail networks in Surrey and Hertfordshire via an underground tunnel through London.
#Budget2020 needs to provide a commitment for central Gov to fund at least half of @Crossrail2 as well as measures to help stabilise @TfL's capital grant. (3/9)
London has recently contributed large sums of cash to the development of its own transport infrastructure e.g. industry is paying 1/3 of @Crossrail's costs. (1/9)
TfL's strategic outline business case for #Crossrail2 praised by Dept of Transport as an "exemplar", TfL Commissioner Mike Brown tells assembly. Going ahead with Crossrail2 a "real imperative" #AssemblyTransport
The National Infrastructure Commission have recommended that the Government fund and proceed with @Crossrail2.
'Do you expect them to follow their own Commission's advice?', asks @DrOnkarSahota

Excellent to see @NatInfraCom making a clear case for @Crossrail2 & continued investment in London’s transport. As its report stressed today, transport investment across the UK is critical, but London’s global standing & population growth mean it must be part of this.
London desperately needs investment in @Crossrail2 to reduce overcrowding at many of London’s busiest rail stations & provide significant congestion relief to the London & strategic road networks. As this report warns, urgent progress is needed even to meet a late 2030s deadline.
Crossrail 2 | Fully committing to #Crossrail 2 is as important to the national economy as developing better rail links in the North, the @NatInfraCom claims in its Annual Monitoring Report https://t.co/yb5tDzIDXp
@joe_parsons@williambarter1 @londonistlatest not yet I'm afraid. Strategic Outline Business Case we submitted to Dept for Transport last autumn made series of recommendations on route. We now await SoS's decision. But revised proposals will be subject to full public consultation
@___lyuchenko@williambarter1 @londonistlatest We submitted a revised Strategic Outline Business Case to the Dept for Transport last autumn. We now await a decision on route and next steps from the SoS
@___lyuchenko@williambarter1 @londonistlatest not an option, as the first HS2 services to Birmingham are schedule to start in 2028 and there is no way that Crossrail 2 construction could be completed anywhere near that early
