What I’m learning from an IndieGoGo failing audiobook campaign (with three days left).

1. Never start a campaign during a mercury retrograde period.

2. Scams. I had people pledging thousands of dollars and pulling the deposits days later—all
scammers. IndieGoGo doesn’t police or enforce this. My emails were flooded with solicitations.

3. Crowdfunding is really just pre-sales for those that have the following. I don’t.

4. I did everything myself so I’m not a creator, I’m a crowdfund manager. Take gun; insert in mouth.

5. I’m too old to create media and manage a campaign. I like the idea of making videos but the process had to be pieced out and I hate Fiver and Upstart (Upset).

Carlos must face a cartel with an army of mercenaries and ultra-tech weaponry, a shan-witch cult hungry for hosts, an undead Mayan lich rising from the ruins of Tikal, and Ollie, whose superior Porsche hides something monstrous.

Solar storms fry the gauges and blue glyphs form HUDs on the dashboard, the Aberrant System awakens: no logout, no respawn. Driving becomes an intense struggle for survival.

Carlos must outrun the horrors of the jungle, outwit the cartel, escape the seductive embrace of the witch cult, rescue his grandfather, and outmaneuver his arch-nemesis to snatch victory from the hungry jaws of the Yucatan.

1. Old School Revival (#OSR) / Dungeon-Crawl Mode: This style emphasizes procedural challenge and player agency.

The game world is treated as a logical, often hostile environment where outcomes are determined by dice rolls and in-world logic.

Character death is a REAL possibility, and success comes from clever tactics, preparation, and resource management—not narrative protection.

This mode draws from early D&D's roots, where the focus was on survival, exploration, and overcoming obstacles through skill and luck, not personal heroism.

2. Heroic Fantasy / Main Character Mode: This style prioritizes NARRATIVE-DRIVEN play and player agency within a story.

Here, the DM often acts as a facilitator of the players’ personal fantasies, ensuring the PCs are central to the plot and their survival is prioritized.

Character death is rare unless narratively compelling, and mechanics are often adjusted to support a satisfying heroic journey.

This mode aligns with modern D&D (especially 5th Edition), where the story unfolds around the PCs, and their actions have world-shaking consequences.

These two modes represent a spectrum: one rooted in challenge and randomness, the other in narrative and protection. The key distinction lies not just in dungeon structure, but in the DM’s role—whether as a neutral arbiter (OSR) or a story architect (Heroic Fantasy).

The scrolls lie in an old library turned dungeon, now sunk in the shifting sands of a great desert. There they lie, guarded by She Who Must Be Obeyed, the white spider goddess.

Within the scrolls are a demonic rite to merge oneself with the Gauntlet and the Glaive, a powerful, screaming, metallic weapon possessed by a demon that must be paid in blood.

The prince races to save his old love, Lady Scarlet, before she too falls prey to the poison of Scorpios and before the power of the Demon Glaive overtakes him completely!
