Not sure what I think about this idea. Do we need to make such an effort to ensure students aren't "bored" or do they need to accept that learning isn't always entertainment? Shouldn't they also take responsibility? Thoughts? @ptompkins7@KirstyCMacaulay @andrea_kuburic
Getting inspired by @Jamesologhlin. This is a great book with gems of wisdom on every page. Students involved in #StartUp this year @SACSEnterprise will be using this book to help them #innovate.
Gem 1: "Mindless habitual thinking is the enemy of innovation." Quote by Rosabeth Moss Kanter.
@rolfek @roobails @cdsmithus@equalman you are all super innovative people - how do you break the habit of mindless habitual thinking??
@rolfek@KayeChalwell@KirstyCMacaulay@MarkMcCrindle @msmestre_edu @ptompkins7 @roobails @Schoology They can have a deeper understanding of their child's learning and there is more open communication between home and school (which research shows parents want) without adding an extra task/burden to the teachers
"1 in 2 Australian parents have increased their expectations is their child's school to support student wellbeing in the last 5 years." @MarkMcCrindle Why is this? Is it our job? How are we succeeding? @rolfek @msmestre_edu @KayeChalwell@ptompkins7@KirstyCMacaulay @roobails
@rolfek@KayeChalwell@KirstyCMacaulay@MarkMcCrindle @msmestre_edu @ptompkins7 @roobails @Schoology How so? Surely formative feedback and authentic discussion can occur regardless of whether parents are involved or not and the benefits of opening up an LMS to parents far outweigh the negatives?
@rolfek@MarkMcCrindle @msmestre_edu @KayeChalwell@ptompkins7@KirstyCMacaulay @roobails I also wonder if it's because they are less involved in local communities, either through church or other community groups and events and are so much busier themselves, working longer hours etc, so rely on schools more?
"The strength of a school comes from its stories and traditions, but the future of a school rests in its relevance and traditions" @MarkMcCrindle@SACSEnterprise lots of things happening for students in our Innovation and Enterprise space :)
How does this change expectations on and responsibilities of teachers and schools? What supports are in place for schools to meet this need? Why the increase??
Did you know that 1 in 5 families in Australia and 1 in 4 families in NSW primarily speaks a language other than English in the home? So much diversity in our schools and communities!
Gen Z are likely to have 18 different jobs/employers over their life and 6 different careers. Schools and parents need to help Gen Z be incredibly flexible. @SACSEnterprise I'm excited for what we're doing!! @MarkMcCrindle
What other wisdom do you have for us @roobails @rolfek ?
School communities are rich communities of up to 6 generations - builders, baby boomers, been X, Gen y, Gen z, Gen Alpha. Thanks for the insight @MarkMcCrindle@SACSEnterprise is doing awesome things to bring the generations together.
