Tonight, At the UR- Huye campus, we come together in solemn reflection and unity to honor the memory of over one million lives lost during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

I participated in a Café Littéraire where Dr. Hélène Dumas launched 'Sans Ciel ni Terre.' Emphasized youth's role in learning and preserving history. Also met @RwandaGov spokesperson @Yolandemakolo - delightful interaction blossomed to even more thoughtful ideas!

Reflecting on certain past KWIBUKA messages from President Paul KAGAME:
- Every year on April 7, Rwandans and friends of Rwanda come together to honor the more than a million innocent lives lost within just 100 days.
- I would like to tell all survivors that they are not alone. You may have lost your loved ones, but there is one family you didn’t lose: your nation. The nation of Rwanda is a family for all survivors, and it is a family to every Rwandan.
- We decided to do the most difficult thing, to forgive. But we cannot forget.
- We cannot turn the clock back nor can we undo the harm caused, but we have the power to determine the future and ensure that what happened never happens again.
- People cannot be bribed or forced into changing their history. And no country is powerful enough, even when they think that they are, to change the facts.
- A history written in blood cannot be erased by lies written in ink.
- After 1994,everything was a priority and our people were completely broken. But we made three fundamental choices that guide us to this day. One — we chose to stay together. When the refugees came home — we were choosing to be together. When we released genocide suspects in anticipation of Gacaca — we were choosing to be together.
- Rwanda has transformed itself, unity is the foundation of everything we try to do. For the beginning we understood the need to cultivate and preserve the spirit of oneness to give us hope for a better future.
- Rwandans will not accept any attempt to divide us. We had enough of it. More than enough. That will not succeed again, here, ever.
“Remember-Unite-Renew”.

humbled by the magnitude of our loss, and the lessons we learned
are engraved in blood.
