Coach | Parent | Believe youth sports should stay neutral and about the kids. I don’t put much stock in politicians, try to focus on values and actions instead
There’s been some characterization and reframing of this situation and myself, but for me it’s always been about the kids and the environment we create for them. This wasn’t about politics, it was about protecting a space for kids.
Youth sports should be one of the few places that stays neutral, where differences are set aside and the focus is on teamwork, effort, and growth. Even if something is well-intended, if it makes even one kid or family feel uncomfortable on that field, it’s worth reconsidering.
Kids today are exposed to more noise and tension than ever, and it shows up in the dugout. That’s why keeping youth sports a neutral space matters, it gives them a place to just be kids.
I raised my concerns respectfully, based on Little League policy and the responsibility we have as coaches to model the core principles of youth sports, integrity, honesty, and character.
@BillShaikin I would imagine players said the same thing when they opposed having black players in the league for its first 50+ years. You should feel bad when your “convictions” are morally wrong.
When I see a ball player take a stand and write scripture about one of these I will believe this was not performative.
Also a reminder that your little imaginary story shapes what YOU can and cannot do…you do not get to shape how other people live their lives because of some mythical guidelines that you can’t even consistently apply in your own practice
@Patterdude I’m all for applying this standard, as long as it’s applied consistently. If cutting services, increasing debt, and fiscal gimmicks deserve criticism in California, they deserve the same criticism at the federal level, regardless of whether there’s a D or an R next to the name.
Using Doug LaMalfa’s passing to squeeze in a partisan jab is a pretty classless move. And for the record, California’s congressional districts weren’t drawn by the politician you’re criticizing, they were drawn by the independent citizens commission that California voters created. If you want to debate the maps, that’s fair, but at least get the facts right.
It’s about a special connection with your team and community. If you were around in 2012 you get it. And let’s not pretend the players we loved in that era were liberals lol (Bum, Belt, Affelt, etc) it just didn’t matter, it was bigger than that and they would not have created this shit like Roup who btw has zero equity with this fan base in a year where the team is massively underperforming. Hope it was worth it.
@Adamcopes@RepGregMurphy@MLB Crazy man- we go from the inspiring likes of Timmy, Bum, Wilson, Affelt, Belt, Panda, Cain, Voggy, etc to 4 homophobic millionaire players who suck, are afraid of rainbows and hate the city they play in. This team is broken
@Adamcopes We talk about a yearning for the glory days players in terms of performance (Timmy, Bum, Cain, Panda, Affelt, Wilson ,etc and even guys like Hudsen and Peavy) but think it’s important to mention this team not only isn’t good but isn’t likable… that matters.
During COVID these people were insufferable and no one cried harder than Joe.
“We don’t know the long-term effects.”
“It’s experimental.”
“It’s too new”
“Big Pharma is making billions.”
“Don’t trust the experts.”
Same people are now one Huberman episode away from injecting peptides they bought from a guy named Chad and flying to Costa Rica for anti-aging treatments.
Apparently “we don’t know what’s in it” only applies when the treatment isn’t marketed by a guy with a podcast and a promo code.
@Patterdude@hubermanlab@AbudBakri I’m sure the family paying $5.50+ for gas, $800/month for health insurance, and a small fortune for PG&E was desperately waiting for their assemblyman to weigh in on peptide supplementation.
Funny how some politicians had endless outrage over Katie Porter’s treatment of reporters, but when Trump calls a journalist “crooked or stupid,” tells her “thank you darling,” and walks out of the interview because she asked for evidence, suddenly there’s nothing but silence. Apparently standards depend entirely on whether the person wearing the jersey is on your team

WOW -- Trump crashes out and cuts his interview with Welker short as she presses him on his lack of evidence for claiming elections are rigged
"You're either crooked or you're stupid. Let's call it quits. Because I've had enough. Thank you darling," he tells her."
"I traveled all the way to Wisconsin for this interview," she pleads.
@Patterdude Despite the corruption, lies, hypocrisy, and complete abandonment of conservative principles, what I still can’t get over is how aggressively dorky these guys are. I’ll never understand how the blue collar community believes they are their champion lol
here we go again with the Trump stolen election bullshit. here's why California takes up to 30 days to certify election results.
👏 so 👏 the 👏 results 👏 are 👏 fair 👏 and 👏 accurate 👏

@Patterdude@CAgovernor@GavinNewsom “Branded gas costs more than generic” is not exactly the groundbreaking corruption exposé you think it is.
Also worth noting: you have received oil industry/Chevron-linked support while running commentary on gas prices. Context matters.
@Patterdude Taking issue with the Capitol Annex while shrugging at Trump’s proposed taxpayer-funded billion-dollar ballroom is certainly… a selective concern about public spending.
