@NikoSarcevic @ruthlazkoz @WKCosmo Wow that is a lot of teaching! I think I only TA'd three terms in my PhD and really noticed how much time it took. Even then I certainly wasn't putting in nearly as much time as you clearly are with all your slides!

@NikoSarcevic I think in many ways a supportive supervisor who advocates for you and collaborators who can vouch for you can make up for a lack of papers if you get unlucky! Though I guess my statement is more for not judging oneself harshly rather than for job applications. 🤷‍♂️

@NikoSarcevic Also Q3: I've never been good at following this advice myself but every project is unique as is people's circumstances during a PhD. So much of research output during a PhD is outside of your control so it doesn't make sense to just compare the number of papers your peers have!

@NikoSarcevic It's funny, my experience is often the opposite. The best talks I've seen are often from ECRs who take the time to make sure everyone understands each step, whereas the worst talks are often from senior people who try to cover a dozen papers in one talk (and overrun massively).

@AlexofBrown I think that's a bit patronising Alex. Many of us feel he walked back or shown a lack of support for many of pledges that got him elected as leader in the first place. I really hoped he would do what he promised, but I've been increasingly disappointed as time has gone on.
