Wanna know what being on a 100,000+ acre farm is like? Here is an overview of seeding.

Every drill operator gets a brand new JD tractor, typically the biggest one they make. The Bourgault drills are new every couple years depending but also the biggest they make.

You work in teams of 4 and a total of 3 crews so 12 tractor/drill/tank setups. There are 2 or 3 super B’s per crew, depending on distance from bin yard.

Everyone is given a Crop Bible, it shows you all the cropland, what will be planted, the seed and fertilizer rates, the depth, your tank changes, your calibration, your maintenance. Hutterites would often take pics of this and send pics back to the colony, because we always grew monster crops comparatively.

Everyone was responsible for their machine, you took ownership of it, you treated it like gold, for seeding at 4.2-4.4 mph it was competitive, everyone compared acres every day. 500+ acres/day is a decent day. The days were long and the sleep was short.
