Today, August 6, Foreign Minister, Senator the Honourable @kaminajsmith, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade join Jamaicans at home and across the diaspora in celebrating the 64th Anniversary of Jamaicaโs Independence.
As we commemorate this historic milestone, we honour the journey of our nation and the remarkable progress we have made since 1962. We also reflect on the past year, during which Jamaica continued to demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges.
May we remain united in our commitment to building a Jamaica where all citizens can live, work, raise families and do business.
Happy Independence 2026! ๐ฏ๐ฒ
United in Celebrating Resilience.

Happy 64th Independence Day, Jamaica!
On behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, and on my own behalf, I extend warm wishes to all Jamaicans everywhere.
Jamaica has made an unmistakable contribution to Caribbean civilisation and the world. Your culture has travelled far beyond your shores without ever losing the spirit of home, reminding us of what Caribbean people can achieve when we remain confident in who we are.
For Barbados, this day is also an opportunity to celebrate the longstanding friendship between our countries and Jamaicaโs journey over the past 64 years. As small island states, we share a determination to chart our own course, protect our identity and secure a better future for our people.
As your anthem says, โJustice, Truth be ours forever.โ May those words continue to guide Jamaica in the years ahead.
Barbados celebrates with you today and wishes you continued progress and prosperity. Happy Independence Day, Jamaica, and may the Eternal Father continue to bless your land.

๐จSpain, Japan, and the Caribbean's Quiet Mobility Story
Two headlines this week: Spain "grants" nine CARICOM states visa-free entry. Japan "confirms" visa-free access for four Caribbean nations. Read at face value, it looks like a sudden diplomatic opening toward the Caribbean.
The real story is more interesting, and more useful.
