New blogpost alert!

I've been trying to map the field of high-dimensional Bayesian optimization.
Here's a brief introduction, and the blogposts that follow will dive deeper and provide code examples.
This publication is a collaboration between me (@DGD042), Jesus Gomez-Velez (@jesusgomezvelez), Mark Person, Shari Kelley, Kerry Key, and Dolan Lucero. Also, this work would not have been possible without the support from the @theAGU ππ¨π«ππ¨π§ πππ¬πππ«ππ‘ ππ«ππ§π
Mountains are vital water sources that continuously replenish lowland aquifers. We present a novel approach to characterize the nested nature of flow along mountain systems by combining groundwater models and Magnetotelluric geophysical surveys. https://t.co/zpgZDiK59G
Meanders are ubiquitous features that regulate water quality along rivers. We explored their hydrodynamics and potential to act as net nitrate sources or sinks. Our insights are critical to river corridor science and can guide river restoration strategies. https://t.co/obdmdlPU7D
Are you fitting high-dimensional Gaussian Processes?
Remember to include a good prior for your lengthscales. It's essential for guiding your optimization.
Here's a blogpost about when and why GP regression fails to fit in high dimensions: https://t.co/B6km81sdAj
I have been meaning to write about Bayesian Optimization (e.g. GPs on manifolds, high-dimensional BO, and so on), but I always found myself starting with the basics... so I decided to write an intro to BO using GPyTorch and BoTorch.
Here it is! https://t.co/cct033S8NN
WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING ABSTRACTS! Consider submitting your abstract to the first annual inland brackish and offshore freshened groundwater resources session for AGU Fall Meeting 2023! The deadline is the 2nd of August 2023.
Submit your abstract here: https://t.co/ymUuzibP0H
We seek abstracts that look into new developments in unconventional water resources, from using #geophysical exploration methods to #mathematical#modeling and well bore data to understand better the mechanisms and environmental impacts of developing these resources.
Updated time series of daily near-surface air temperatures in Alfombrales #PolekaKasueMountainObservatory, Colombia. N=2,550 readings (08-24-2015 to 08-16-2022). Tmin,min=-3.3Β°C; Tmax,max=+16.0Β°C; Long-term Tmean=+4.4Β°C.
I am recruiting PhD students to start in my group in Summer or Fall 2023 to work on multiple funded projects. If you're interested in water quality, climate, reservoirs, wetlands and/or nature-based solutions, contact me! @psugeography@PSUEarth#VanMeterLab
