In today’s installment of if Republicans are complaining about it they’re doing it . . . Medicaid fraud.

Florida settled a Medicaid over-billing case against Centene for 57 million dollars. Ten million dollars from the Medicaid settlement was funneled to a charity run by Governor Ron DeSantis’s wife Casey DeSantis. Her charity then disbursed the ten million dollars to some dark money groups that don’t have to disclose their donors and then those groups passed the money on to two PACs connected to Governor DeSantis who used it to fight a ballot initiative that he opposed. Not a penny of the ten million dollars was used to provide healthcare to working class Floridians who rely on Medicaid. And note that Governor DeSantis wasn’t upset about the misuse of the ten million dollars, he was pissed that someone told the public about it.

Florida, healthcare, and fraud go together like livermush, white bread, and yellow mustard. You may recall that when Florida Senator Rick Scott was the head of HCA (now the infamous owners of Asheville’s once great Mission Hospital) HCA pled guilty to 14 felonies for Medicaid and Medicare fraud and paid a record 1.7 billion dollar fine. Senator Scott resigned as HCA’s CEO, walked away with hundreds of millions of dollars in severance, and used the wealth he gained from leading a huge corporate fraudster to finance his move into politics. When he was deposed under oath about his role in HCA’s massive felony fraud scheme, he did like Dr. Fauci and President Trump and invoked his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent 75 times.

The administration of our 34 felonies President boasts about its war on Medicaid fraud, but there are few things more fundamentally Republican than bilking the healthcare system that’s supposed to help working class and poor Americans.
