Beyond sharing his expert insights on local manufacturing, we are proud to announce that East African Medical Vitals is a Silver Sponsor for this year’s conference!
Why EAMV is a Game-Changer:
Local Excellence: Since their first glove in 2021, they’ve been run entirely by Ugandan professionals.
✅ Supply Security: No more surgical cancellations due to shortages.
✅ Rapid Response: Consistent, high-quality supplies for our hospitals and clinics.
The Challenge & The Impact:
Despite high capital costs and infrastructure hurdles, @EAMedicalVitals is proving that investing in local production creates jobs, transfers technology, and strengthens our entire health system.

In the high-pressure world of trauma surgery, burnout isn't just an individual struggle—it’s a collective one.
While presenting today at #ASOUCONF Dr. Jennifer Rickard , Associate Professor of Surgery and Trauma Surgeon at the University of Minnesota, explains that staying "healthy and happy" in medicine requires a focus on both self-care and caring for those around us.
She emphasized that protecting well-being goes beyond individual effort; it involves a multifaceted approach that balances personal health with family life.
Dr. Rickard urged us to look out for our peers, recognizing early signs of distress to offer support before it escalates.
"By identifying high-risk individuals early and intervening proactively, we can foster a healthier, more resilient surgical community" she added. #ASOUCONF2026
Session 3 is officially underway at #ASOUCONF2026! We are honored to host Dr. Denis Mazingi @DMazingi from Zimbabwe, who delivered a masterclass on navigating charity partnerships and resource allocation to achieve Surgical Equity.
Dr. Mazingi traced the evolution of Global Surgery, challenging us to move toward Generation 5: Justice.
The Reality Check:
⚠️ The Funding Gap: With major traditional donors (like the U.S.) scaling back, surgeons must become their own strongest advocates.
⚠️ Resource Mismatch: Global resource allocation still leaves surgery under-prioritized.
⚠️ The Inequity Crisis: Charity exists, but true equity is still out of reach for many.
What a "Good" Partnership looks like:
✅ Locally Led: Decisions made by those on the ground, not from afar.
✅ System Integrated: Aligned with national priorities, not just short-term missions.
✅ Accountable: Measurable impact that strengthens the entire community.
"The ultimate aim of every charity is to do such great work that they are eventually no longer needed." 🇺🇬🇿🇼
