@TheEMboardround@tombircher But even where the history might suggest airway burns as a possibility, if an awake and fully aware patient has no symptoms or signs why does an anesthetist need to make that assessment compared to an ED doctor?
@SamGoodhand@clifford0584 Experienced clinicians likely to make better drug choice decisions than protocolised intubation drugs. Nothing wrong with propofol in some of these when used properly, and ketamine may be more harmful to some. Whoever intubates should have experience in a range.
@TheEMboardround Cat 2 response target is 18mins. If there's nobody available for this job for 2hrs then it's unlikely cat 1 response times would be much better anyway.
@nearlydrvicky @thegradmedic The advice the BMA gave me was that they can insist and don't have to pay you for time or travel expenses unless its in their local T&Cs. Seems daft but that was why I contacted the BMA in the first place!
@coffeeheadaches Practically the odds ratio is used when you don't know the amount of exposure the population has to the variable tested (typically in a case control study) whereas relative risk is calculated when you do (cohort studies, RCTs, etc).
@emily_fri The Drager ventilators name their invasive ventilation pressure support mode CPAP ASB (and their pressure control mode BiPAP) so some places call it this and it gets shortened to CPAP. I tend to use whatever name the vent calls it to avoid miscommunication.
@DurrantNiall The problem is that (rightly or wrongly) people feel entitled to a job where they want to work and are (very reasonably) upset if they can't have that. There will be complaints about any system where some don't get what they want.
@Manoj_Wickram But why is US guided cannulation ever difficult? I tend to find its either small tortuous veins or moving patient - neither great for an in-plane technique in my opinion. I visualise the cannula in the vessel out of plane instead so I know it is in.
@Dr_BellaR The curriculum and assessment process needs sorting. Compare to anaesthetics / ITU where practical skills are assessed to different levels at different points in training rather than just a token DOPS to say you've done one.
