St. Catherine of Siena (1347–1380) was a Dominican laywoman, mystic, and Doctor of the Church, born in Siena, Italy. One of 25 children in a merchant family, she experienced visions of Christ from a young age, dedicating her life to God. She joined the Dominican Third Order at 18, living a life of prayer, fasting, and service to the poor.
Catherine became a prominent spiritual and political figure, known for her intense mystical experiences, including a "spiritual marriage" to Christ. She wrote influential works like *The Dialogue*, a series of conversations with God, emphasizing divine love and human cooperation with grace.
She played a key role in Church politics, urging Pope Gregory XI to return the papacy from Avignon to Rome, which he did in 1377, ending the Avignon Papacy. Catherine also mediated conflicts, including between Italian city-states and the papacy, earning respect for her diplomacy.
Canonized in 1461, she was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1970 for her theological contributions. Her feast day is April 29. She is a patron saint of Italy, Europe, nurses, and those suffering from illness. Her life blended deep spirituality with bold action in a turbulent era.
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.
A “protest politics” which relies principally upon deception, rage, and violence to win power is actually not politics at all. It is anti-political, anti-order, and anti-American.
Only the deepest love of God and country can defeat it.
St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us.
30,000 hours of footage, equivalent to 3 years and 7 months, were filmed to capture the blooming of 77 types of flowers, and the result is spectacular.
Baptised Catholics who walk away from the true Church often claim they have “seen the light.”
But let’s be clear, that is not the light.
No failure of a priest.
No scandal of a bishop.
Not even the weakness of a Pope is ever a justification to abandon the Catholic Church.
The truth is this: you don’t leave Christ because of Judas.
The Catholic Church is not built on the perfection of men. it is built on Christ Himself and sustained by the Eucharist.
Those who truly understand and value the Eucharist do not walk away from it.
Call it what it is, not “seeing the light,” but turning away from it.
Leaving the Catholic Church is synonymous with turning away from the Light.
“The Church has damaged the liturgy of the Mass. It’s too noisy! It’s as if we were celebrating ourselves. It has become a convivial moment, whereas we are there to worship God; we need a liturgy that worships God. We no longer speak of salvation and the soul!”, laments Cardinal Robert Sarah
«L’Église a abimé la liturgie de la messe. Elle est trop bruyante ! C’est comme si on se célébrait nous-même. C’est devenu un moment convivial, alors que nous sommes là pour adorer Dieu, il faut une liturgie qui adore Dieu. On ne parle plus du salut et de l’âme !», se désole le cardinal Robert Sarah dans Le Club Le Figaro Idées présenté par @EugenieBastie.
A cutting reflection from Cardinal Ratzinger, Good Friday 2005:
"Pilate is not utterly evil. He knows that the condemned man is innocent, and he looks for a way to free him. But his heart is divided. And in the end he lets his own position, his own self-interest, prevail over what is right.
Nor are the men who are shouting and demanding the death of Jesus utterly evil. Many of them, on the day of Pentecost, will feel "cut to the heart," when Peter will say to them: "Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God... you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law."
But at that moment they are caught up in the crowd. They are shouting because everyone else is shouting, and they are shouting the same thing that everyone else is shouting. And in this way, justice is trampled underfoot by weakness, cowardice and fear of the diktat of the ruling mindset. The quiet voice of conscience is drowned out by the cries of the crowd.
Evil draws its power from indecision and concern for what other people think."
Catholic :
It's not a service, it's a liturgy.
It's not a robe, they are vestments.
It's not wine, it's the Blood of Jesus Christ
It's not bread, it's the Body of Jesus Christ,
Its not a table, it's an altar
It's not a song, it's a hymn.
It's not a poem, it's a psalm
It's not a preacher, it's a priest
It's not only a personal relationship, it's a convenantal relationship
I love being Catholic, it's our life and lifestyle..
