I recently had the privilege of joining Pastor Joe Anady, Dr. Daniel Scheiderer, Dr. Drew Sparks, and Dr. Richard Barcellos on the Theology in Particular podcast (Episode 250) to preview this year’s So Cal Reformed Baptist Pastors’ Conference. The conference theme is drawn from chapters 12 and 13 of our confession — Of Adoption and Sanctification — two doctrines that belong together and that every believer needs to understand well.
If you are interested in what confessional Reformed Baptists believe about the Christian’s standing before God and the work of grace in the soul, give this episode a listen.

Objective truth is objectively authoritative whether grasped by knowing the explicit teaching of Scripture or by deduction that involves speculation and subjective uncertainty on our part. Piper’s statement, taken at face value, implies that speculation diminishes authority as such, when what it actually diminishes is recognized or communicable authority. A preacher could in principle speculate correctly and be binding on his hearers whether they recognized it or not. Junius’ distinctions in True Theology are very helpful on this. There is true theology existing objectively and true theology known subjectively and these must not be conflated. To distinguish well is to teach well. It is not our certainty about truth that lends it divine authority.

In his 2003 edition Prolegomena to Theology p.32 - Reformed Scholar and author Dr. Richard A.Muller correctly identities Particular Baptist theologian and pastor Dr. John Gill as one among few who during the late orthodox period of Protestantism continued to produce and defend “traditional Reformed theology”. PBHB is committed to preserving the literary heritage of this eminent father of the faith. We are on track to having his complete works consisting of 9 vols Finished by the end of 2026!
