How many hidden critters do you see in these pictures? It’s always fun observing local wildlife interacting with the #RGV thornforest while out seed collecting, from big to small, all of these animals rely in the thornforests in some way. @AmericanForests

Located in the Rio Grand Valley, Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge offers a stark contrast to the rapid growth in the region.
Visitors will find a diverse ecosystem that supports a wide variety of wildlife. https://t.co/FkdnJdpWk8
Grateful for the collaboration between @AmericanForests, @UTRGV, & @HidalgoCounty Precinct 4 that resulted in the successful planting of a community thornforest in the heart of the #RGV. This forest will be used for environmental education & serve as a refuge for wildlife.
An important stage after seed collection is carefully processing seeds prior to storage. Each Tenaza pod is opened to inspect for seed herbivory, larvae like these are a challenge to restoration. We don’t know the extent of the damage until each pod is opened. @AmericanForests
Today @UTRGV undergrad Alexa Escobedo is presenting her research on thornforest seed production at the @SACNAS conference. These findings are the culmination of many hours of field work collecting seeds from Texas Ebony, an important species for @AmericanForests LRGV restoration.

“Reforestation is a multi-dimensional strategy for building resilience on the US-Mexico border.” @DaleLRGV joined @SalazarNAmerica yesterday to talk how habitat restoration in the Rio Grande Valley is supporting ocelots, recreation and healthy ecosystems #ConservationImpact2022
This last week of #SeedSeptember here are some reasons why @AmericanForests collects seeds. Seeds are the basis of all forests; they are critical for climate mitigation & wildlife conservation. I celebrate seeds every day, stay tuned to see seed collection throughout the year!
Meet @UTRGV undergrad Alexa Escobedo. Alexa's dual commitment to seed collection and research through the EFAS-REEU program is a big part of @AmericanForests work in #RGV. She presents her thornforest study next month @SACNAS 2022. Go Alexa! #HispanicHeritageMonth#SeedSeptember
