I condemn the attempted political assassination of General Mahad Abdirahman Aden who was injured in an illegal drone strike that the unconstitutional regime of former president Hassan Sheikh carried out against his residence this morning. I pray to Allah for his speedy recovery.
I strongly condemn the drone attack on the residence of General Mahad Abdirahman, former Commander of the Custodial Corps. It is a dangerous escalation that threatens peace, undermines state-building, and further erodes public trust in the state.
General Mahad’s case epitomizes the personalization and abuse of state power. Hassan Sheikh removed him from office and detained him amid a political dispute linked to his family relationship with South West President Abdiaziz Laftagareen. Now his residence has been attacked by a drone. This is state power weaponized for political revenge.
Even more alarming is the use of weapons, drones, intelligence, and capabilities provided to Somalia to fight Al-Shabaab in domestic political confrontations. Somalia has already paid a devastating price for subordinating state institutions to the will of individuals.
This attack does not demonstrate strength; it reveals desperation, recklessness, and political failure. It also raises a fundamental question: if Hassan Sheikh uses military force and drones to settle an electoral dispute in South West, how can he be trusted to guarantee a neutral environment for a federal election that will determine his own political future?
International partners cannot remain silent while counter-terrorism assistance is diverted into domestic political repression. They must ensure their support is not used against political opponents or to influence electoral outcomes.
Supporting Somalia is not the same as supporting the occupant of Villa Somalia whose constitutional term has expired.
If drones are used to settle South West’s political dispute today, what will be used to settle Somalia’s federal electoral dispute tomorrow? #Somalia @US2SOMALIA@UKinSomalia@EU_in_Somalia@SwedeninSomalia@_AfricanUnion@UNTMIS_@TC_MogadisuBE@GermanyinSOM@ItalyinSomalia@NLinSomalia@aussom_
ME24 EXCLUSIVE | Turkey Accused of Bombing Somali Political Opponents
The home of General Mahad, known as “Shubka”, the former commander of Somalia’s Prison Service forces, was hit by an airstrike in Doolow, injuring him and his wife, who were reportedly taken to hospital with serious injuries.
ME24 sources in Somaliland are claiming that it was a Turkish drone that conducted the strike. ME24 has yet to independently corroborate the accusation. If this is accurate, it would mark a dangerous expansion of Ankara’s military role in Somalia — raising questions over whether counterterrorism operations are being used to intervene in Somalia’s internal political struggle and target government opponents.
Turkey is becoming an increasingly powerful military player in Somalia, raising growing questions over the limits of its presence and respect for Somali sovereignty.

President Erdoğan himself has said that Turkey’s horizon cannot be confined to 783,000 square kilometers.
Turkey’s military forces are present in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Somalia.
Yet his government accuses Israel of “expansionism” - a tiny country one-thirtieth the size of Turkey, with no geographic depth, that faces repeated attacks and relentless attempts to eliminate it.
And all this while Turkish forces continue to occupy parts of northern Cyprus.
The irony speaks for itself.

Somalilanders in Sweden. We have an important message to you. ⬇️
Two parties recognize the Republic of Somaliland: The Sweden Democrats (SD) and the Christian Democrats (KD).
I’ve never seen Western or Arab countries put their flags on our people after giving aid like dates, wheat, maize, beans and cooking oil. Yet Turkey distributes $300–500 and puts its flag on Somali children. If this isn’t writing history over us, what is? @TC_MogadisuBE
After an EU threat to cut aid and with crucial funding for AUSSOM and allowances for both the military and ministries hanging in the balance, Hassan Sheikh quickly backtracked on any suggestion that Somalia had recognized Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus as a sovereign state.
Hadalkii Wasiirka Arrimaha Gudaha ee shalay, runtii garan maayo waxa uu uga dan lahaa, maslaxadda uu is lahaa ha ka gaadho ama waxa uu qaranku ka dheefayo.
Waxaan ku tilmaami karaa hadalkaas mid ay sabab u ahayd hafasho siyaasadeed, xilkasnimo la’aan iyo miisaan yari. Waxa kale oo muuqata in Wasiirku dareemay culays markii uu hor yimid Golaha Wakiillada, taas oo keentay inuu xakamayn kari waayo caadifaddiisa qofeed.
Hoggaanka dhaqanka soo jireenka ahi mar walba wuxuu mudan yahay xushmad iyo xaqdhawr, xataa haddii ay jirto dareen ah in hoggaankaasi ku hawlan yahay arrimo aan waafaqsanayn danaha guud ee ummadda. Haddii ay jiraan tabashooyin ama khilaaf siyaasadeed, waa in si taxaddar leh, masuuliyad iyo miisaan leh looga hadlaa.
Masuulka dawladdu waa inuu mar walba tixgeliyaa saamaynta hadalkiisu ku yeelan karo bulshada uu masuulka ka yahay. Muhiimaddu ma aha meesha uu hoggaanka dhaqanku adduunka ka joogo, Somaliland ha joogo ama Talyaaniga ha joogo. Waxa muhiimka ahi waa saamaynta iyo miisaanka uu ku leeyahay bulshada aad xukunto.
Dawladnimadu waxay u baahan tahay in awoodda iyo masuuliyadda lagu lammaaniyo dulqaad, xikmad iyo hadal miisaaman.
Ugaaska Guud ee Beelweynta Ciise wuxuu mudan yahay in la garwaaqsado doorkiisa hoggaamineed iyo saamaynta uu ku leeyahay Somaliland gudaheeda, maadaama uu oday dhaqameed u yahay qayb ka mid ah muwaadiniinta dalkeenna. Sidaas darteed, marka laga hadlayo Ugaaska, waa in la tixgeliyaa miisaanka dhaqameed iyo saamaynta bulsho ee uu ku leeyahay dadka uu hoggaanka dhaqanka u yahay.
