Pyroclastic flows at Mount Merapi today: one at 11:21 WIB ran 1.5 km to the southwest toward the upper Krasak River, followed by another at 11:31 WIB reaching 2 km in the same direction.

🇮🇩 This is just one of the landslides that struck Sumatra, Indonesia. You can see how the soil behaves almost like a liquid.

From the looks of it, this slide began farther down the slope. If something like this started higher up, especially above a populated area, there’d be virtually no chance of escape.
