14-year-old Oluwadamilola Adeolu, a member of Nigeria’s contingent that won a gold medal for Team Nigeria at the Spelling Bee World Cup, received a heroic welcome in Ado-Ekiti.

There was jubilation in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday morning as Oluwadamilola Oreofe Adeolu returned home to a rousing welcome after winning gold for Team Nigeria in the Middle School Category of the 2026 Spelling Bee World Cup.

The event, organized by her parents, was a celebration of her remarkable display and historic win on the world stage.

The young champion arrived at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion along New Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti, from Shanghai, China, where she helped Team Nigeria clinch a historic gold medal at the global competition.

She was received by her parents, teachers, church members, friends, neighbours, community leaders, media personalities and well-wishers who all turned out to celebrate her achievement.

Speaking at the reception, Mrs. Adeolu attributed her daughter’s success to God Almighty while also expressing her heartfelt appreciation to all who supported Oluwadamilola throughout her journey.

She acknowledged the prayers, encouragement and sacrifices made by her family, teachers, church members, students, staff, and well-wishers who stood with her daughter from the state stage to the world stage in Shanghai.

“We are grateful to God Almighty for this victory. We also thank everyone who believed in her, sponsored her, and prayed for her. This achievement belongs to all of us,” she added.

She also commended the Ekiti State Government under the leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for sponsoring Oluwadamilola to China for the competition.

“We give all glory to God for this victory. Oluwadamilola worked hard and made sacrifices, and we are proud that she has made Ekiti State, Nigeria and Africa proud. We urge other children to take their education seriously because greatness is possible with dedication and prayer,” she said.

The event, organized by her parents, was a celebration of her remarkable display and historic win on the world stage.

Well-wishers described the homecoming as a celebration of hard work, resilience and academic excellence, and of a young Nigerian inspiring a new generation.

Mr. Asubiojo Henry Olaoluwa, 2020 National Best Teacher, expressed excitement over Damilola’s success at the state, national and international levels, and praised her humility despite emerging as a national gold medalist.

The Chairman of Reminders Association, Ekiti State Chapter, Mr. Owolabi Paul, popularly known as Progress, also congratulated Damilola, describing her victory as a proud moment for Ekiti State and for Nigerian children at large.

The Pastor of God’s Labourers Prayer and Evangelical Ministry, Pastor Ayodele Adeyanju, also thanked God for Damilola’s academic feat, commending her diligence, focus, doggedness and humility in attaining greatness on the world’s biggest stage.

From Ekiti State Spelling Bee Champion, to African Champion, and now World Cup Gold Medalist, Damilola’s journey stands as proof that dedication and academic excellence can take Nigerian children to the global stage.

A year ago, I made a bold decision to start from the scratch again.

Not because I failed, but because I saw a problem hidden in plain sight— agricultural waste.
Each time we processed snails, I’d look at the piles of discarded shells, plant residues, and biomass from farms across Nigeria and ask myself, “How can these wastes become wealth?”

The more I researched, the more I saw the truth that; these materials take decades to degrade, polluting the environment and atmosphere we depend on.

That’s how Nectar Agrosolutions was born — a company focused on transforming Agric biowastes into eco-innovations that restore the soil, protect crops, and power sustainable farms.

Today, we recycle snail shells, periwinkle shells, palm kernels, and other biomass into biopesticides, biofertilizers, and briquette precursors. Just solutions built by Africans, for Africa.

But here’s the truth, building something new is never easy. I’ve had to fund it from personal savings, fabricate equipment from scratch, and lean on the unwavering support of close friends who believe in the vision.

At first, I ignored it. But Jacob Abiodun slid into my DM and insisted I apply. I got busy and missed the deadline.
A month later, @akinwale_cfi shared the opportunity again and I knew that was my moment.

Fast forward, we scaled through the first and second phases, and now, I’m in the mentorship stage, learning, networking, and collaborating with brilliant entrepreneurs solving real-world problems through innovation and sustainability.

When I started my small-scale, home-based poultry farming research with 100 birds, I learned many lessons the hard way.

After 5 months of struggle, I began getting 20-30 eggs daily, selling each for ₦150 and earning almost ₦4,500 per day. Although production fluctuates due to various factors, I noticed a significant increase after deworming, feeding them greens, and even playing soul music to reduce stress.
