Just 30% of Americans trust banking institutions. How can banks restore that trust?

Banks say credit card rate caps would hurt poor people. New study proves they're lying.
Here's their argument:
"If we cap rates we can't price for risk anymore. We'll have to deny credit to people with bad credit scores."
Sounds reasonable, right?
@VanderbiltU researchers studied what would actually happen if rate caps were introduced.
The results:
- Banks carry on lending to most borrowers
- Their billion-dollar ad budgets get cut
- Rewards get cut
- Consumers paid $100bn less in interest
The "we'll stop lending" threat is a negotiating tactic.
They've used it for decades to block reform.
Now you know that's false.
The evidence exists. The bank lobby just hopes you won't see it.
@limebike@MonashUni @AlexaDelbosc I have a charge on my bank card from Lime which isn’t in my ride history and your customer service bot promised someone would get in touch but they haven’t. How do I speak to a human?
@holland_tom this was excellent - absolutely loved it. If you're looking to get more musical numbers on the pod you could intro the episode on NY resurgence with New York I Love You by LCD Soundsystem.
@ByGeoffW@rl_chris_higham@sytaylor I don't think this is a tech problem. Its about finding a price-point that's low enough to make sense to the consumer but high enough to be both profitable and not cannibalise subscriptions. Tech can only address one of those variables and even that one only partly.

@izakaminska "the public consensus... sided with Farage". not sure this is the key point. The problem was the govt - not the public - sided with Farage (for entirely political reasons).
