CX is more closely correlated with growth than any other variable. Yet what % of businesses have actually defined their CX? 20%, perhaps? Any company can add a little magic to their journey. And incidentally, the more boring your market, the bigger impact it’ll make.
A good SEO is a complex creature. Lover of code yet appreciate of brand. Analytically minded yet comfortable with ambiguity. In possession of 10,000 ideas yet never claims to have the answer. If you want to sleep well for the first three months of your campaign, hire a bad SEO.
Some advice to young digital marketers - stop worrying about digital & go learn about marketing. You've lived your life through google & social anyway, you don’t need any more practice. What you need is an education in actual marketing. The stuff that hasn’t changed in a century.
Words that shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near brand values - “Honesty”, “Transparency”, “Authenticity” and “Integrity”. If they still feel necessary then I suggest replacing with one catch-all... “No dickheads”.
I sometimes think we now hide behind data. When the graph goes up we take the credit. When it goes down we look for 10 other data sources with which to conflate & confuse. Focus instead on the big strategic inputs that drive those KPIs. Good things happen when you do good things.

It’s ironic that the main objection I get to truly big, ambitious content ideas is a lack of budget (even though the budget for channel promotion remains healthy). Surely nothing is more expensive than trying to make a noise with mediocrity..?
If your agency sends you a performance report of more than 3 pages, they’re hoping you don’t read it. If they send you one of more than 10 pages, they haven’t read it.
The downside to marketing automation software is that its potential is capped by the ambition and rigour of your brand strategy, content creation, lead generation models & performance analysis. The upside is that it sounds like it’ll do all those things for you, which is cool.
If marketing is the use of behavioural economics/psychology for commercial leverage then why does the average marketer spends less time learning about 300,000 years of human behaviour than they do about SnapChat’s latest f**king filter??
Social platforms are successful in part because they have an unpaid workforce generating content. And we’re part of it. That’s fine, but remember that in the LT you either need to measure your social by sales, or by building a real asset - your email list #buildonlandyouown
