As someone who very much does want a village and indeed has it (I currently have 4 neighborhood kids under 6 at my house joining us for dinner. Part of a baby swapping system I started in 2021), after having pretty painstakingly built it over years, I want to make two points...
What is this man talking about?
Without the protected bike lanes on Bloor, I'd have no safe way to make it home from work in time to collect my kid from daycare. Cycling saves me 20 minutes faster vs. the TTC - and a separated lane means I can use my bike year round.
New paper from the METRE lab! Interested in modeling our sense of rhythm? Confused by apparently conflicting pictures of "networks of oscillators" and "predictive processing"? Quick thread below!

STUDY: “Pretty remarkable.”
A new study found that e-bike rebates led to a surge in ownership, with 60% of purchasers being entirely new to cycling. Those who took part also reduced their weekly vehicle travel by 48km on average, a decrease of 30-40%. https://t.co/fbPhzzJf30
This is such a great opportunity. Jon's doing amazing work and is a fantastic supervisor. And, we truly have an incredible team here at @McMasterPNB and @musicandthemind.
If you’re looking for a postdoc working with me on models of rhythm perception, or with anyone in the incredible rhythm group at McMaster — @ e.g. Laurel_Trainor , @LaurenFink_PhD , @john_iversen — this scholarship would be a great route in! https://t.co/K3UGN6UL1H Contact us!
It is time for the Canada Primary Care Act – a sister to the Canada Health Act that would guarantee that every Canadian has a family physician or other primary care provider, by @janephilpott https://t.co/PV3P5FZJIv via @GlobeDebate
Seriously, watch this short video. To see how to effectively make the case for protected bike-lanes, and particularly how they’re good for business. Or just as a great example of how to speak to any city council.
Watch it, then share it. HT @PVDStreets
“Six million Canadians don’t have a family doctor”. Why this matters and how to fix it. Have a listen and let @janephilpott know what think. https://t.co/ppRotPyaWL
@tpcanoe I share the frustration. Enforcement could help, but infrastructure changes are the sustainable way to improve safety and wellbeing: reduce and slow cars and get them further from people, and ⬆️active and public transportation rates. Our car-centrism leads to road violence.
WATCH: If you STILL don’t understand how car-dependent suburbia is HEAVILY SUBSIDIZED by downtown & all the urban parts of your city, watch this EXCELLENT video by @notjustbikes with @UrbanThree & @StrongTowns. And then please SHARE it as much as possible. https://t.co/e3A9Yo8ZSJ
Do you drive your kids to school? Consider dropping them off 5 minutes away & let them walk the rest of the way. You will avoid the school traffic and your children will get a little #PhysicalActivity & be ready to learn! #internationalwalktoschoolday#DriveToFive#mentalhealth
Create a .25 mile radios around the school where no cars are allowed to enter (except for residents) problem solved. The issue is always cars. https://t.co/kqavikHKSd
