Feedback is an important part of learning and continuous improvement. I am pleased to share that the students rated the course an average of 4.35 out of 5.
I am particularly happy with this outcome because this is one of the first Web3 courses developed and taught at the university from a perspective that goes beyond the traditional technical focus of #Web3.
More importantly, I am excited to see that the course has achieved one of its key aims: motivating students to explore and create businesses and entrepreneurial opportunities around Web3.
Allow me to share, verbatim, one of the students' written feedback.
“Before taking this study unit, my knowledge of blockchain technology was very limited. Apart from my previous studies in accounting and economics and my general exposure to news and media reports about Bitcoin and Ethereum, I had little understanding of the underlying principles, applications, and entrepreneurial potential of blockchain technology.
Through this study unit, I have developed a much better understanding of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, decentralised systems, smart contracts, and the opportunities they create for innovation and entrepreneurship. The course has helped me move beyond simply knowing about Bitcoin and Ethereum and understand blockchain as a broader technological platform with applications across finance, business, data management, digital services, and other sectors.
This newly acquired knowledge has motivated me to pursue more advanced studies and training in blockchain technology. I am particularly interested in exploring how blockchain can be combined with data engineering, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies to develop innovative solutions.
I also see blockchain as an important area for startups, business innovation, and entrepreneurship. In the future, I would like to become actively involved in blockchain-based markets and explore opportunities to develop or contribute to blockchain-enabled entrepreneurial ventures and technology-driven businesses. I believe that the knowledge gained from this study unit provides a valuable foundation for pursuing these ambitions and for identifying responsible, innovative, and sustainable applications of blockchain technology.”

Thank you, Journal of Interactive Marketing; what an honour to be featured in this report!
The new Journal Citation Reports are out, and our paper is among the top cited articles in the Journal of Interactive Marketing for 2023 to 2024.
The study "Understanding the Role of Social Media Content in Brand Loyalty: A Meta-Analysis of User-Generated Content Versus Firm-Generated Content," written with Olli Tyrväinen and Heikki Karjaluoto.
The question behind it was a simple one. Brands spend a lot of money on the content they produce themselves, while their customers keep producing content about those same brands for free. Which of the two does more for loyalty?
Instead of running one more study in one more setting, we pooled what the field had already found and looked at where the evidence agrees and where it does not.
Citations are not why anyone should do research, but they show what other scholars found useful enough to build on, and that means something.
Thank you Olli and Heikki for this great project.
Congratulations also to the other author teams on the list.

#Web3 is witnessing a rebirth. The crypto ponzi may have died.
A while ago I read a post from a crypto nerd venting about the state of the space. His conclusion was blunt and it was that crypto has died. The replies carried the same frustrations.
As an academic and one who is deeply involved in research in the space, I read it differently.
What died was not the technology. It was the meme coins and copy and paste projects that lived on hype, and that model was always going to run out of patronage.
We have seen this before. The dot com crash wiped out https://t.co/gE6zdKe9Hn and thousands of others, while Amazon lost about 90 percent of its value and survived. The crash did not kill the internet. It cleared out those who came for the money.
Look at what is happening while the timeline complains. #BlackRock's tokenised treasury fund now holds close to 2.9 billion dollars. Tokenised real world assets on public chains grew from about 5.4 billion in January 2025 to roughly 31 billion by July 2026. #Chainlink is working with #Swift, #DTCC and UBS on tokenised settlement. #Coinbase has just won an approval to build its tokenisation hub in #Abu Dhabi, and #Nigeria approved tokenised shares and bonds on NASD.
AI and blockchain are merging too. #Coinbase's #x402 protocol, which lets a machine pay in stablecoins inside an ordinary web request, passed 165 million transactions across roughly 69,000 agents by April. This is the #Agentic Economy taking shape.
Business schools are the least prepared for it. We teach marketing as though the customer will always be a human with a browser, and management without asking what governance means in an organisation with no head office. Meanwhile there are eight to twelve thousand active Web3 roles globally, and the non technical ones are growing fastest. Interestingly, the majority of these jobs are remote.
To business schools, start with one elective and one practitioner in the room this year. The schools that move now will train the professionals this economy will need. The rest will be writing curriculum in 2032 for a market that was settled in 2026.

I am a teacher and researcher with more than ten years of university teaching experience, and my current research and teaching sits in the Agentic Economy.
If your business school or organisation is thinking about building Web3 capacity in marketing, management, accountancy or insurance, send me a message and let us talk.
Last week, from Monday 3 to Friday 7 August, I taught at the University of Jyväskylä on "Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Blockchain Technology".
I designed the course from the ground up.
They came from China, India, Hungary, Germany, Egypt and several other countries. Those who could not make it to #Finland joined online.
We started with the foundations of the #Web3 ecosystem such as #wallets, #tokens, #smart contracts and #tokenomics. Web3 is a way of distributing #value so that every participant in an ecosystem, the builder, the user, the #validator, the early supporter, has a reason to stay and keep contributing.
Then we spent the greater part of the week on theory, and that was the most interesting aspect.
Transaction cost economics helped us ask why some decentralised arrangements lower the cost of coordinating strangers while others quietly raise it.
Game theory gave us a language for incentives when there is no central party to enforce anything.
#Effectuation theory was applied to understand how founders actually build in this space, starting from the means at hand rather than from a fixed market forecast.
One student from China told me why she signed up. She had been looking for a course that treated blockchain as a business question rather than a coding exercise, and this was the first university offering she could find. She was happy the course met her expectations.
The course is part of my new research and teaching interest in the #Agentic Economy, where software does not wait for instructions but transacts on behalf of people and firms. #Blockchain is one of the rails that will carry it as Web3 expands into new frontiers.
To the students who flew in from across the world, thank you. You made the week worth it.
More to come!

@GuardianNigeria This is a welcome development. This deal will likely open many economic doors for the Nigerian entrepreneur. Nigerian entrepreneurs could seize this opportunity to connect with Chinese buyers of agriculture products while also exploring Chinese tech products. Huge news 👏
I am honoured to be invited to speak at the University of Bucharest, Romania, on the topic: "The Transformative Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Tourism and Hospitality Services." You can join online today (link in the flyer) at 18:00 to 19:30 EET.
