A report by KTN reveals that the four men who abducted Standard Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich repeatedly questioned him about the stories published and aired by the media house, the nature of his work and influence within the organization, as well as the activities and guests of Standard Group CEO Chacha Muhita.

The interrogation extended to questions about who KANU Chairman Gideon Moi hosts at his Kabarak home, raising questions over whether the abduction was intended to intimidate Kiprotich over his journalism, obtain information about the media house or pursue an undisclosed personal or political motive.

The University of Nairobi has been ordered to pay a student Sh3 million for deleting her name from the graduation list on the morning of her ceremony, despite her being cleared, gowned, and seated at the rehearsal with her name on the chair.

Justice Mugambi ruled that Marceline Juma, who found out about her removal via WhatsApp, suffered a severe breach of her rights. The court awarded her Sh3 million plus Sh24,000 in special damages, ordered an apology within 30 days or the sum rises to Sh4 million and rejected UoN's defense because its internal remedies "existed only on paper."

The ruling reinforces three key constitutional principles. First, Article 47 requires fair administrative action, meaning organizations cannot penalize someone without prior notice and a hearing. Second, it protects legitimate expectation, holding that UoN could not arbitrarily revoke her graduation after officially clearing her. Third, the court ruled that forcing her to celebrate "nothing" before invited guests violated her dignity and freedom from degrading treatment under Articles 28 and 29.

The core lesson for any institution is that procedural fairness is mandatory, not optional. Skipping due process, ignoring communication, or making sudden unilateral decisions creates severe legal liabilities. Before taking any action that harms an individual's rights, organizations must provide notice, a hearing and a fair procedure.
